Ok, wait... so should they be eating scratch?

Don't worry... chicken math will soon strike and you'll be going through treats much faster than you ever thought possible...

Scratch is not 'feed', even for adult chickens. It's 'treat' or 'get in this coop, look see what I have?' enticement junk food. I usually throw out BOSS for that, which is a bit better. I feed starter, then flock raiser for everyone, with oyster shell on the side for the layers since I have a multi age setup.

X 2. !!!!!!!!

Scratch as a treat only like most of the posters recommend. Thats what starts my girls and boy day, throw a little in the run and the fenced in free range area. It works as a training tool as well,if I got to go somewhere I just grab the tin and they come running back into the covered run. As far storage you can use a rubbermaid clothing storage bin that has a cover,,they will hold close to 100 pounds of feed. Started giving my new chicks scratch around 6 weeks which was about a week after the were penned up during the day to forage for themselves, letting get some grit into them. 9+weeks and are growing quick, wish I could say the same about my garden.
