I am buying a sweet gaming computer that can run everything to maximum limit. The graphincs are outrageous. I need to know what is better for an OS "operating system." Microsoft vista or Linux? please list pros and cons.

The way to best answer this question is go to the store look at the games you want, check the box and see what operating system is recommenced.

Almost all the games I enjoy (fps) are written for Windows. The will run in a windows shell under Linux, but the native OS is windows.

You want windows XP not Vista.

You didn't provide any specs and if you have already purchased the system, I wouldn't.

If you are looking to play the latest games with all the eye candy enabled and high resolution, I think you are going to be a bit disappointed. The computer that you linked to uses a lot of older hardware, including integrated graphics. It would work fine as an Internet browsing/Office productivity computer, but it won't run the games of today very well.

This is the reason I said don't post specs if you already purchased, many of the "gaming" computers I have seen advertised have inferior video cards.

Concur.. You do want XP for a gaming box.

Go Crazy! Dual boot between XP and Linux. (haha) actually, unless you have lots of time to read, tweak, get frustrated, etc just stick with XP.

I'd look for Nvidia 8xxx series cards for now, the 8800GT looking pretty good if I might say so myself.

What kind of games are you looking to play?

Dont know yet. I am getting unreal tournament 3 for my PS3 and a few other games for my PS3. I am not really into PC games. I might get COD 4 for PC

We have dual boot for our systems. I love linux, but the kids games are written for windows, so for ease of my sanity with six kids, they boot the windows system for their games. I agree with the Windows XP, haven't had the opportunity to even use Vista, but from what I have personally researched, I have no plans on getting Vista, if I can help it. For linux, we have used Mandrake, Red Hat and Suse, and the kids all prefer the Suse system for linux. Suse is easy to use, and setting up the dual boot isn't that hard either. Hope that helps, Linux in my opinion is a great OS.

I also agree with Royicus on the specs. You will want a separate video card installed, and personally I would not purchase that system. Every system that we have here we built ourselves, with an exception to the laptop, which we got free and we fixed. I wouldn't buy a premade system for gaming. If you are unable to assemble the pieces after purchasing them, you can use services from other places, such as I believe Best Buy. I have also built top of the line systems for less then purchasing them at the store already together. We have 7 computers here, and believe me we wouldn't be able to do this if we hadn't built them.
