Okay, DH gave me the go ahead- so question for you eggsperts!

I have Dominiques, Red Stars and WC Polish. The Polish are definitely skittish, tho the roo will let us pick him up and he will sit on my shoulder. He also seems- for now!- fairly quiet. The Polish pullet is a whack job!

Runs all over the place, nearly impossible to pick up (tho she will sit on your arm for a while once you do), and comes close for treats but won't take them from your hand. The Dominiques are friendly and curious, easy to pick up and hold, will jump on my lap and take treats from my hand. The Stars are the most friendly. They run to the fence first to see what I'm bringing them and are the first to jump on my lap when I sit. If I don't sit, one or the other will often fly straight to my shoulder. They will also take treats from our hands readily. The Stars are also pretty quiet. They chatter quietly among themselves all day long, but only get loud if we pick them up. They don't mind it or struggle, just a quick squawk when we do. The Dominiques are quiet as well. Not sure about the Polish, as one is a roo and, I'm sure, will get noisier as he matures! And the pullet is low on the pecking order, so she tries to stay out of the way all the time.

I love love love my dark brahma and it is a roo. He is pretty quiet (he will occasionaly honk like a goose but does not crow). He is super friendly. After that I would say that my buff orpingtons are my 2nd favorite. They are very personable & one hen is a complete lap chicken. She would rather you hold her then go sleep with the other chickens. The barred rocks are nice. I was unsure about them at first but now I really like them. They are very curious & they are like my roo's 2nd hand ladies - his enforcers, lol. The gold laced wyandottes are shy but beautiful to look at. I have 2 hens that will come over to me as long as they see me holding my buff orp hen & the roo is pretty good also. He does not want to be touched but he does not go after anyone either. The only bad thing about him is that he crows his head off at 5:45 am each morning.

You may want to check out heathly chicks & more. When I ordered it was down to ordering from them or MPC. HC&M charges way less for shipping & they were awesome. My chicks were shipped on Sunday & I got them 6:30am on Monday. Out of 20 chicks all of them were healthy & survived. They were very good about the sexing as well. Out of 20 chicks, only 2 ended up being roosters. Also you can easily reach them by email & if you email them with an urgent question they will actually call you back, not just send you another email.

BARRED ROCKS ALL THE WAY! I have 2 EE, 2 RIR, and 2 BR, and the BR are by far the friendliest. They are first to the door when I go out, and they love to sit in my lap. They are super curious and they are ALWAYS the first to find a treat, new spot, etc.

The RIR are great, but a little skittish. And the EE are beautiful but by far the quirkiest bird. Sometimes they nose dive into the corner of the brooder, trampling the others, like imminent death is upon them...when really I'm changing the water. But seriously, BR all the way!!!!

I wish I lived closer to a BYCer!! Next spring, I definitely want more chicks (and a nice variety) but I CANNOT keep 25...chicken math or not!!! Hmm, perhaps I can convince my mother....

I wanted to order the baby chick special, but I panicked. I'm still really new at this, and I didn't know what the likelihood of me selling the excess chicks, so I just ordered six more. That'll give me twelve, they'll be a week apart, and I feel more comfortable with that. Not only that, my post office believes they have to personally deliver express mail when it arrives, so I know they will bring it to my house Tuesday. Even though he gave me the go ahead to order the 25 chicks, I think my husband is a bit relieved we're only getting six more for now, even if we had to pay a bit more.

Now cross your fingers I get three happy and healthy Welsummers, and three happy and healthy Speckled Sussex on Tuesday!
