okay.. I'll post.. What breed is this?

I don't know. The Barnvelder looks more solid and yours is a little more spotty. (If that makes sense.)

There are lots of kinds that have that kind of head stripe/mohawke. The chick to the left is a silver phoenix, not sure exactly what the golden ones look like as chicks, and the one aiming for my toe is a Buttercup and I know your guy isn't that because the comb is wrong.

I just know ones I have raised so curious what it turns out to be.

Thank you...The feathers are beautiful, can't wait to see.. She is by far my most inquisitive.. first to the bowl when treats are placed, first to come to me and see what I am doing. As long as SHE is a she...we will be happy together.

Thanks for the input!

Okay, One last chickie guess. See the brown one on the left? She is a True Araucana. I don't' have a good head shot to see the markings well, but she reminds me of yours the closest. The one closest to the camera in the right pic is a male the same age. He actually had a tail which he isn't supposed to have. But you can see at 4 weeks, he is already turning red in the comb.

Your last post made me think of them. They were never afraid when I put my hand in the brooder and would actually come to me. Always did.

Ok. I thought someone else might chime in. I'm off to bed. Maybe the mystery will be solved when next I check the thread.

True Araucanas and Ameraucanas have pea combs. Yours has a single comb. Wonder if it's a single combed gold laced Wyandotte.

This is sort of what she looks like, except maybe darker feathers but the markings on the feathers is the same..

Ugh! I give up. it is what it is!!

Yep, forgot about the pea comb but the behavior and feather color match.

What are the last one's you posted a pic of? the gold laced wyndotte?

Just keep updating, Maybe as the colors fill in we can figure it out. I'm hooked, I gotta know!

I found this picture from a post on Backyard Poultry forum... " Fiesty Fowl" posted pictures of their 3 week old barnevelder chicks...

The only difference I can see from my sweetie is her head is darker, but the feathering matches perfectly, and her quail markings are higher on her head.

Will post more pictures next week. Maybe she will feather out more and we can make a better call on her breed.

Thanks for the communication!
