Hi everyone - thank you I do feel better now. I was pretty down this morning. I do not want to rehome them. It's not their fault and I do like green eggs. I just wanted more than one color. I'm going to take some time and figure out what I can do to make the coop bigger (from what I understand, the inside of the coop is the part that is largely too small) or maybe we'll start over and sell this coop to someone who only wants 2 chickens, or 4 bantams.
I want to say I never thought my chickens were trying to hurt myself or my kids. It's just that I realized how quickly my kids could lose an eye if we let our guard down, and although I think my 6 year old has learned to keep his eyes above beak level now, I don't think my 3 year old can at this point. So it made me realize I couldn't just behave as if my backyard were a petting zoo, which was what I had been doing. The chickens have never done anything like this before, it was mealworm frenzy. The thing that scared me was that we knew not to do it, and it happened anyway.
Thanks!!!
