Okay, Lets change his mind!

Your right about that, bad pets come from bad owners.

I love those chickees and even though they are so young I would be very upset if something happened to one of them.

Thanks for all that input. I look foward to hearing more stories and opinions on this.

My conclusion: Chickens make good pets with love and care.

I will be trimming my chickens toenails

Be careful though, don't cut close to the quick. I tried to trim our's and I couldn't clip much because the quick was very close to the end. They do sell nail files for animals, which work well to dull the tip and don't scare them.

Oh I will be fine with the nails. I raise rabbits and trim over 40 rabbits nails every 2 weeks. Thats 18 nails per rabbit

I should be fine, If I do cut the quick I can use cornstarch or quick stop. But I have never hit the quick yet! I am the most careful out of all my sisters. We have pedipaws for our dog but I am not a fan of that, It just smooths out the nail not filing down much.

My sister had a Silkie Roo that was a big sweetheart! One time we saw the chicks were wandering up in the neighbor's yard, so we said, "Brewster, go bring those chicks home." Without hesitating, he took off, rounded up those chicks, and herded them back home! Don't ask me how he knew what we wanted-he just did it! We also had little brown bantams (breed unknown), and they were all very tame.

My little pullets, as chicks, did not get handled as much as they should have as I was going through early morning sickness etc. However, now that they are starting to lay, they have attached themselves to my four year old son. He can do anything with them-- pick them up, cuddle them, whatever he wants.

I call him the "chicken whisperer"

But, seriously, none of our hens (we got four as adults) had the handling to make them friendly, but they ARE! They are sweet and funny and personable and they ALL love my sons

chickens are the best pets ever! I convinced my parents by telling them how useful they are, with free eggs, fertilizer and alarm clock!

Also they are great cuddlers.

My sister is bringing home mealworms and crickets today for me. I owe her big time

I hope they are able to understand that the treats come from me and instead of running away to come. Plus its halirous to watch them eat!

You dont think they will hate me because I have already given BOTH sultans baths and cleaned their pasty butts, wings and bleeding foot. They run away even faster when my hand comes
