Okay, so maybe velociraptors *could* learn to open doors...

Since our family breeds and shows dogs as well as (hopefully) showing seramas, we went to help a friend with one of her dogs. One of our hens came with us, Cleo, but she needed to be in the pet carrier, so we brought along a pink Sherpa bag, all went well until we drove back. We realized that we had no time to drop off Cleo at home before the we were at the appointment, so we Cleo in the carrier and continued on, but when we were about five minutes away, I noticed Cleo's beak was stuck in the mesh, and one wall of the carrier was caved in, but before I realized what this meant, there was a snap, and the zipper came loose, and Cleo launched herself into my footwell. Sometimes they are just too smart.

It was getting hot in my feed room slash chick room so I needed something to keep the chickens out but let in air. I bought one of those magnetic screens to go over the doorway. Well that lasted a few days....then the chickens learned if they made a mad dash they could push through it.
So I broke down and got a screen door. That lasted a day. Came out to find a big hole in the corner of the screen and a bunch of guilty chickens hiding in the feed room. Apparently they convinced poor dumb Poppy, my one eyed huge Orphington rooster that is... Well... Mentally slow... To bust thru the door so they could follow thru the hole. As I approached they all scattered....except for Poppy, he was clueless. So needless to say the screen door now has hardware cloth....

That is hilarious! Btw, I would *love* to see a picture of your one-eyed Orpington - I had an Orpington rooster and he was such a sweetheart. I miss him. I also have a special affinity for pets that have something wrong with them (missing an eye, missing a limb, blind, deaf, you name it.
