Okay sorry I didnt know what to post it under..

SouthCityChicken, I agree with your point of view. Im sorry if I came off as aggressive, I dont mean to seem mean about it, i just think that since you are the owner of the chickens and since they are domesticated animals, its up to the person what to feed them, and the animals lack of ethics dont apply until the chickens start to forage in the yard, then its up to them what they eat. But i think people should just feed them what seems right to them, not what would seem right to the chickens. So what worries me is that people seem to find cannibalism okay.

There are a lot of people who feel like you do, but they don't go online telling people to stop doing what they're doing. To compare feeding chickens meat to feeding people meat to your children is totally twisted. Number one, animals are not people. Number 2, animals were put on this earth for people to eat and enjoy however they see fit. In the animal kingdom, it is survival of the fittest. Would you be offended because a snake ate a person, or a tiger ate a goat? Be a vegetarian, but don't expect others to follow suite. Meat was placed on this earth to enjoy, but you can avoid it if you must. It would be unrealistic for you to expect the remaining 96% of humans to think with a vegetarian mindset.

You are entitled to your opinion, but so are the rest of us.

You are anthropomorphizing, expecting an animal to adhere to human values.

Just my opinion.

It's not like we are encouraging them to turn on one another, and slaughter and eat each other. It's just protein at that point. Not really any different than scrambling up a bunch of eggs and feeding to them... "oh no potential baby chickens... " but most just figure it's extra protein, not like we're slaughtering them specifically to feed to eat other. More like it's a sin to waste perfectly good protein.

Like I said before, I can see how if you thought about it too hard you would feel uncomfortable with it, but honestly, it's just nature. Sometimes chickens will go after each other without any person involved at all. I had two gerbils that ate each other once. GROSS, but that's how animals roll sometimes. They aren't people. I can't say I'd feed meat to my birds, but not out of any ethical imperative really, my dog just seems to always be underfoot at the dinner table waiting for scraps. When I give him vegetables, he spits them out. If the chicken feels weird about it or it tastes bad to them, they wouldn't eat it. Cannibalism amongst animals, while kinda gruesome to think about, is not really uncommon. Let's be honest here, animals do all sorts of gross stuff. My dog loves to gnaw on beef bones. It is pretty nasty if you ask me, but he seems to enjoy it so I indulge him from time to time. Does that make me immoral? Nah, just a goofy girl who loves her dog enough to withstand being totally grossed out on occassion to make him happy. I won't judge him if he promises not to mock my love of artificial cheese.

"Groups that occasionally eat members of their own species range from lowly protozoa, slime molds, and sea slugs to insects, spiders, fish, reptiles (including dinosaurs; dinosaur bones have been found bearing the teeth marks of their kind), amphibians, birds, and at least 100 species of mammals, such as hamsters, rats, squirrels, bats, seals and sea lions, otters, polar and grizzly bears, lions, tigers, and chimpanzees. Researchers in New Zealand have even found the remains of a giant squid tentacle within the stomach of another giant squid-evidence that it either ate its compatriot, or accidentally ingested itself. Either option, scientists say, is cannibalism."

I dont see a problem with feeding them unfertilized eggs. And animals are people, just less intelligent and far cuter.

and i think that you are taking this too seriously, all im saying is that you shouldnt choose cannibalism when you have a choice to feed them other things. And animals WERE NOT put on this earth to be food for people!!!! I dont have anything against people eating them, but that is the most disrespect for animals I have seen. We have to live with them in peace, because we all live on this earth together, and that means accepting that they have lives just as people do. Im sorry that this upsets so many people, its just something to think about. It's fine with me if people choose to eat meat, but what bugs me is when they act like animals are just walking dinners!!!! Please, I wasn't trying to anger anyone, it just bugs me and I was hoping to find some polite opinions on the matter.

I think what has happened here is maybe you need to personalize your posts a bit more. as you know everyone has their own way of life and their own set of morals and opinions.....they may or may not be the same or similar to yours, but there is nothing wrong with that. take this statement for example:

"all im saying is that you shouldnt choose cannibalism when you have a choice to feed them other things."
when you could say"all im saying is that I wouldnt choose cannibalism when I have a choice to feed them other things. "

this to me seems a little less offensive

Ugh I'm just saying that its like feeding your child people meat!

personally, I don't think of animals as people (but this is my opinion), and that is your opinion...not necessarily everyone elses...and a bit harsh IMO
