You are still building a window. Your's just has wire instead of glass. Build as instructed, then attach hardware cloth from the outside, cutting your wire cloth 2" wider and taller that your window, giving you 1" overlap on all sides. Attach a frame from the outside to secure the wire cloth and to give you something the shutters can attach to. Here is an example of a window I built. Instead of a shutter I attached a window.

It was really easy to put it together. I couldn't find the measuring tape but it's 2x2 and about 4' high, plus the 2 nest boxes.

It was really easy to put it together. I couldn't find the measuring tape but it's 2x2 and about 4' high, plus the 2 nest boxes.

Of course tongue and groove can be cut. Mark the opening, drill a hole large enough to pass a jigsaw blade and make your cut.
