<--- like this

I have Styrofoam incubators of different models. One model had better designed sides, that were higher, and no chicks ever popped over the sides when I removed the lid. The other incubator has lower sides, and when the lid is removed, I have had chicks escape. I have learned to lift out one of the small, removable, viewing windows, and stick my hand in through the window opening to nab the little guys, when I am ready to remove the chicks, from the model with low sides, and the lift out viewing windows.

You may, or may not be using one with sides low enough for them to pop over the sides of course. I have found chicks hiding under things on the floor, when I saw one scramble over the top.

Haha I agree. I had 4 buttons hatch out yesterday and 5 more today. I got the 4 out yesterday and they are fast for being a couple of hours old!

Found it's foot. Not sure how the cat got it, but that seems to have been it's fate. Ah well, with none of the other eggs hatching, maybe it was for the best? The adult quail wouldn't have been very kind to a solitary chick.
