Okay, who sent me the 130+ Pheasant chicks? mystery solved post #49

either way, someone should get their money back due to the high percentage of doa's

sorry they aren't surviving, odds are it is this crazy heat wave we are having, and they just couldn't take it in that large of a number in a box. hope a the rest that are alive survive. will check back to see an update

I'm waiting on the person to get back to me... but they are a very trustworthy person, so I feel better about all of this!

They may have been sent by mistake but I'd bet my last dollar that whatever made them all die was done in transit - it's been really hot the last 2 days - because I'm absolutely certain they were healthy as could be when they were shipped!

I'm sure it was a simple mistake and the chicks were either handled roughly by the P.O. or it was just very hot. Hope some of them survive for you! Someone want to ship me a batch of show quality LF Barred Rocks, LOL?

Just kidding!!!

No, I never ordered them, so I wouldn't ask for replacements. If anything, I'd ask for whoever was charged to be refunded, but no one was charged.

It is a shame that so many died - but I know it wasn't their fault - anything can happen when you ship birds.

...and you, ma'm, are a true southern belle.

Now I'm blushing. Thank you for the compliment - that's very kind of you. I'll pass it on to my mother and the long line of Southern women I'm descended from.

Yes Southernbelle you truely are 100% wonderful! I wish everyone else that finds themselves in this situation (bought or not) would be as kind!

We need more understanding about the shipping of live chicks, it is not always the shippers fault!

That happened to my grandathers about 15 yrs ago. He got two big boxes with 75 turkey poults and 150 quail! We had nothin' set up to use as brooders. We eneded up putting the quail in the bed of an old pickup truck sitting in the barn and the turkeys went into two horse stalls. My grandmother was terrified the heat lamps would start a fire and burn down the barn.

The return address on the boxes was somewhere in Texas, with no phone number. This was long before the internet and we never managed to contact the shippers.

I think 50 turkeys made it and got sold or slaughtered. Most of the quail escaped one day and they had quite the wild quail population in the fields around their places for many years.

Unfortunately, all the babies have died.

From what I could find out these were not sent by a hatchery, just in the hatchery box and were hatched and mailed by a very trustworthy individual. I had recently bought an item from this person and somehow my contact information was accidentally added to a list of customers ordering chicks, so I got chicks! I was never charged or billed for the chicks. Whatever happened to them was done in transit because I know they were properly handled before shipment.

It was sad to see them die and I felt so sorry for them. I would've kept them if any had lived, but it wasn't meant to be.
