today I went to work, I been out of work for 5 weeks because I went to surgery so I not been working, but my first day back was today.
any way, I had some eggs in the incubator that have been in the incubator for 12 days I think.

when I came home from my work i was going to turn on the light but nothing happened.....I though F....... the electricity went out while I was working!!!
now I don't know for how long the electric was out, but the eggs in the incubator where cold, I have re headed the incubator again but will anything hatch from these eggs? :(
I had 3 lohmann eggs there (my lohmann hens are old and don't give me a lot of eggs anymore, so I was really hoping to get chicks from these eggs).

does anyone have a story where the electric went and still some eggs hatch? or did my little chicks in the eggs die :hit
out of all day for the electric to go, it had to go when I was not at home! :hit

so what should I do? I have them in the incubator now just in case in any of them are alive, but for how long can an egg be a live with out a heat? is there any way to tell if there some think still alive? (I don't really know tho when the electric went out)

I’ve had electricity be out for 12 hours and my eggs still hatched just half a day behind. Don’t open the incubator and if power is on now, then nothing more is needed, but for future reference bundling up whatever holds your eggs to help hold the heat in helps.

There's a good chance that they're still okay. Eggs can take a lot of cooling before they die. I once had a broody abandon an egg, and it sat without heat for over 24 hours before I realized. I put it in the incubator and it hatched fine. So don't give up hope.

Give them a few hours to warm back up and then you can candle them to see how they are.

No clue but I would have stuck them back in the incubator, call a neighbor or two if they can give you a heads up as to how long the power was off (if anyone was home) or even call the power company. You could try candle in a couple of days to see if there's any movement or shape. But let's see what the experts say ...

It's a lottery with power outages. Don't give up on the eggs. It decreases your possibility of a successful hatch, and it will slow them down (make them hatch late), but I've seen and heard of some incubator "miracles," so never, ever give up on eggs unless you have candled them and nothing is there, or it's been over 23 days. Well, in this case 24 days.

Best of luck with a bator miracle!

developing eggs can go 8 hours, or so i've heard, without dieing past that and the chances of them living lower. I had a similar problem last summer, I was incubating some muscovy duck eggs on day 30/35, I had a drivers class at 6 am and as I left I realised I had forgotten to turn off the heat lamp over my chick brooder. It was mid June and the temps were getting to 80*F or more, the chicks in the brooder were 2 weeks old and I did not want them to roast in there so I called my brother, I told him to turn off the heat lamp in my room. 5 hours later I got back from drivers class and was getting ready to go to the lake, I ran up to my room and the heat lamp was still on, all the chicks had jumped out of the roasting oven they used to call home, I was angry that my bro did not turn it off but he was not home so I could not yell at him. I went to the lake for 3 hours, got back went to my room, my incubator is not self turning, I opened it up and tadaaaa it was off and the eggs were freezing, I realized that my stupid brother had confused "big red lamp that's roasting the chicks" with "that styrofoam incubator that is hidden in the dark closet and has a small green light on it" I was soooo mad, my brother is lucky to be alive after that one! Well anyways, 1 egg survived, and that's not bad considering the eggs were nearly 2 weeks old when they went in. The survivor was named Nubs, he is in my profile picture, now an adult drake. I did looked at the other eggs on day 40, all of them were undeveloped and rotten, so the one actual duckling lived 8 hours without heat, although he was only 5 days from hatching.

okey thanks everyone I have more hopes now that i read all this, I was only away from home for 6 hours and I don't know yet when to power went off.

but I hope they are okey and I will call my neighbours and check when the power went off, but I will keep you updated if they hatch or not
