Okies in BYC

I made it over to the OSPF (Oklahoma State Poultry Federation) APA poultry show in Shawnee on Saturday. We entered a half dozen Legbars. It was a pretty competitive show with 16 Legbars in the exhibit. Cindy Bailey from Bristow entered a Cock that has best of breed at five previous shows. Looking at her birds before the show I told her that I thought a younger cock that she had entered for its first show looked like a much better bird that her 5 times winning cock. The judge thought so too and gave her younger cock the best of the Cream variety. I had two five-year-old hens at the show. My cream hen had won reverse of breed behind another one of my pullets at a show with about 30 Legbars in it 4 years old. She took reserve of the cream variety. My other hen had never shown before although she was the 2nd place pullet in the Cream Legbar on-line show behind the best of show pullet four years ago and then was Best of Show in the on-line Legbar show as a hen. I have always been afraid to show her for fear that she would show well at a live show as she did in the photo on-line shows. She did okay. She was the reserve of the Crele variety. The judge said that of all the birds there that she had the best type, but over-all the Crele pullet shown by Paul & Angela Smith took best of breed.
So...it felt like being at National with a five-time Best of Breed being beat out by at least two other cream birds. Then the crele birds hen that had won best of show out a hundred entries in the on-line show was beat out by an up and coming pullet for best of bread. It was a good exhibit.

I spent most of the day with the Legbar breeders but got over to look at the white call ducks. They were next to the heavy geese. They were huge. We have done some African geese in the past which is what I think of for the size of a good and those heavy goose breeds withe 2-3 times that of an African goose. They would dress up larger than a heritage turkey for Christmas Dinner.
How do I join the OSPF I live in Oklahoma and I have a few birds I show but I only go to 1 maybe 2 shows a year. I have a really nice Rir rooster that has one 1st in our county fair. I’d like to see how he would do against others.

You can send a message to the OSPF secretary at [email protected] they can send you everything that you need. They started a Spring Show this year that is done in March (which I am sue was canceled) and a fall show the 2nd Saturday in December. There are also APA shows done in Norman, OK in the Spring (Month? March?) and the Fall (October). You can look at PoultryshowCenteral to find the most comprehensive listing of APA shows. You also might look into the RIR breed association to see where the State club meet will be hosted for the breed. That way you don't show up to find that there is just you and one another person with a RIR cock. How many birds were at your Country fair. We have had some RIR's take best of breed at our country fair that looked really nice. We get about 60 birds in out open class at the Country fair and over 200 in the 4H class (since their is a lot of prise money for the youth). Winners of our fair would do well at APA shows.

There was about 8 maybe 9 birds.

Hello! I apologize if this is repetitive as I've posted in another Okie thread as well but I have a beautiful buff brahma rooster I am looking to rehome since I live within Tulsa city limits and can't keep him. He's about 5 months old and healthy. Pick up near downtown Tulsa or I could possibly meet up if not too far of a drive. Thanks!
