I was debating Newcastle with James. However, he doesn't much care for auctions and I hate going by myself. I never know how much money to bring, and I can't ever tell what the auctioneer is saying. I guess I just don't do well at auctions.

I just want chickens, dangit.

I'll just be satisfied with what Mike found for me, and contact the orpington lady later this week, and wait til spring when everybody is hatching cool things. I'm still burned on hatching after the 'bator thing from a couple years back (never did see a dime of that money back) so I won't be hatching anything myself, but it'll give me time to build more coops and runs and such. Drive my neighbors nuts.

On that note, I'm going to bed. 5:30 am comes early.

Just got home from MWC Hospital where MIL was readmitted. Seems three noted doctors can't get their act together and allowed an 88 year old woman with diabetes, a heart condition, one functioning kidney and a pinched nerve in her back to suffer in pain today without pain meds until she was hurting so much she became nauseous and vomiting.

Decided to edit my rant to say that calls to the three doctors did not get the renewal of the pain meds she needed at least until her appointment with the pain management doctor on Wednesday. The heart doctor wrote the original script when MIL left the hospital last week. She was in major pain all day Monday.

We were called when BIL was going to take her to the hospital but she started vomiting and BP went thru the roof so an ambulance was called to transport her to the hospital where she was given something for pain, an ekg, xrays and admitted in a room to rest overnight until her DOCTORS can see her....what is wrong with this picture!!

Needless to say, Niece and I will be up there first thing in the morning to discuss the situation with the heart and kidney doctors. We're going to seek a referral to a different PM doctor as well.

Pray fireworks don't go off in the morning.

had a long weekin Love this nice weather ,,The swap meet was packd with saler's sat an sunday but good bird's are hard to find lot's of chicken's an pigeun's
duck's gease an gin.fowl..The most fun is meeting new Bycer's Ksane an her DH i met they are super nice folk's an i did some swaping with Havingfun he brot
out a load of roo's ,,Hope his hen's i swapd him are doing good..Seen Buckguy an son for a bit..
Sat night never seen so mannny bird's lot's of mixd breed's an some pure i like thim all ..But alot of thim needed some TLC . Lot's of peep get bird's an as they get biger
it take's more feed an bird's just dont grow good if ther not fed chick starter an good feed...Any way they had some good bird's ther that brot $$ one game roo brot 25
an a toppy stag brot 11 he wasnt grown but crowing size...Some of the game hen's brot 10 an some 8 R.I.R hen's brot 8 an 9 buck's an some buff orp hen's an roo brot

bird's for that i bot the roo from him for 10 buck's after he bid on thim he said he didnt wont it...But over all thing's went good for as much stuff as was ther .
A cage of white homer's went for 3.25 ther lookd like 20 or so in the bunch...Gease wer 4 to 5 buck's an they had alot of Kakie cambel ducks an alot of mixd one's
About 2or 3 buck's ..No big duck's like white pekin's or muskcovy's they bring the most //The last sale a big duck brot 20 something it was a drake..
Gin fowl they have flooded the market with thim every wer iv gone ..The big french gin's did bring 9 at the last sale that i bot ,,I would like to get some more ..
Rabbit's are way up dont no how manny they sold sat night but 8 to 10 an some went 15 to 18 they never got cheap ..seen a few cross buck's go at 3 to 4
the cheap'es sold an are old bud light foot had is hand in the air i think he was giving that guy the stink ey...
Buster was biding on bird's an bot a cage full of moran's i can say the lady had some of thim fat an in good shape if i was Buster they would have went on the ice wen they got home i dont thing you could get thim much hevyer ..
Hade a pigeun come in today an thot it was a comon tel i walkd over an pickd it up dont no how the poor thing made it was so poor. It's bill is the short'es iv ever seen
on a short face tumbler ..Dont no how it could even eat..I put some water in a cup an it drank but never seen it eat ges it will rest up a be ok..

Can't sleep! Been waking up every few hours for a wk or so. Seem to go through insomnia every few yrs, yet time more frustrating!

Nankat take it easy yourself. Taking care of loved ones is hard work emotionally & physically. You will be on my list as well as your family.

Michael, I thought those buff orph looked nice, but was surprised when price kept going up. But on the guys side who bought them, not sure if I ever really heard the auctioner say price is per the bird at all Saturday night. My DH was confussed on that when he went w me last time, since auctions are not his thing. He had been selling guineas by the cage. When the guy just got the whites out of the cage I was surprised they let him. I would have just taken the whites. They are suppose to taste milder & be a lighter meat. Would like to try some myself. Think you may have a hard time finding the french ones @ auction. The French guineas need artificial insemination to reproduce but jumbos are can reproduce naturally. I have 2 males I am not sure if they are French or jumbo. There helmets are much broader & bigger. Anyone that looks in my guinea cage can tell they are different in size. Guess I will see if I an learn the difference on google since I can't sleep!

Poco-- was very surprised to read you sale people birds to eat! You strike me more as the attached chicken momma! But as buster said the other day -- one can only have so many Roos. Even though I think some are just pretty! Like barred rocks-- love when they have the long feathers & they are just HUGE compared to many other breeds. Quite striking roosters! But I agree a dz of them running around here wouldn't be good, no matter how pretty they are.

Been considering gettig some Muscovy, thinking about it for a while now. Trying to resist. Means another pen, more work. But I really think they have been calling me.

Nanakat - Sometimes it takes concerned folks such as yourself to help the doctors understand what's really going on with the patient. I've seen instances like your MIL is having many, many times. I'm sorry to hear that she's been having her pain left untreated unnecessarily and will keep her and her doctors in my prayers.

On a lighter note, yesterday I found a hot spot for several items I was looking for and scored big time! Someone answered an ad I placed on CL looking for small rubber tires. When I went to get them I noticed all kinds of stuff at his place that would come in handy and came home with a car load of stuff for next to nothing. It was fun going through his "junk" and haggling on the prices. I felt like an American Picker!

Also yesterday I traded my last two roosters for some lawn work. It was sad to see them go because I had gotten so attached to them, but they were making way too much noise and I had gotten a complaint from one neighbor. The guys who take care of my lawn were happy to take the boys home to be with their chickens and said that they wouldn't be food. That made me feel better about letting them go.

Gonna try to get some shut-eye again.

funny about their personalities- the first 2 have attitude, the other two are just sweethearts- mitzi, don't know how you did it, but they came home with just super sweet attitudes!

They don't CARE who's boss, they just want to know. I know dog dynamics like the back of my hand, this whole chicken thing is fascinating to me.
Can anyone tell me whether the standard sized Cornish has the same laid back gentle personalty as the bantam Cornish I've got? If that's the case I'd loooove to find a young standard Cornish hen. Robin, I think your 2 NN's were just glad to be home with "mama" again. Remember how that one closed his eyes and practically melted as soon as you were holding him again after being at my place for a week? That's chicken-love no matter how you look at it
