if it were me I would place some (1/4 Tsp per gallon) oxine in the water they consume. that will kill the intestinal bacteria and virus, they will need some yogurt to help rebuild thier intestinal bacterial that they need. I have found this works for e-coli bacterial infections in young birds. Unfortunately this is not something one can avoid as it is carried by nearly every adult bird, wild bird, and very easily transmitted.
if you need some oxine, let me know I keep it here, and use it to sterilize everything including any new birds, ground, pens, incubator, hatcher, etc. that is some really good stuff.
I started reading about that. They've got L-S 50 in their water right now, I'll ask him tomorrow if I can mix them. That's a good suggestion for after the antibiotics are done. I'm a little confused as to WHY I'm giving them the antibiotics? To kill the e.coli bacteria? Or for potential secondary infections? I'll ask that tomorrow, too.
LS-50 is for resperatory infections, so I would think it to be for a secondary infection... Poultry is extremely suseptable to respiratory infections and the additional stress would definetly put them over the edge.
I like to mist the birds with 1/8 TSP per gallon Oxine when they appear to be coming down with respriratory problems. and give shots of LA=200.
I dip the birds in two solutions when coming home from either aquisition or shows first in oxine and water (for bacteria, virus, and fungus) then Hy-yield 38 (permethryn) and water for external parasites. This saves me a lot of trouble or at least I think it does.
