***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Another reason to dis-budd a buck is that there are scent glands at the base of the horns that become active during breeding season. Takes most of the musky smell away because when you use the iron on them it kills the scent gland.

I love those chickens! I reeeaaaally want a couple of them later on in the future.

I am getting an egg a day from the hen and am going to do a test run of them in the incubator. She is still just a tad flighty but is getting better but the rooster is an absolute sweetheart. The cat just doesn't understand why they won't be friends with him.

well, it was coop101 idea- i had them (we have 2 that were that way) chained near the chicken pen for awhile, i think about a month, then we would let the chickens out and they would walk around while the dogs were chained, we'd tell them no every time they started towards them, then we would walk them on the leashes with the chickens- watching their actions, correcting them when they seemed to want to chase- eventually i came home from shopping and our rooster was standing next to the dog when i came in, i tried not to panic and watched- somehow in those weeks these guys figured out they were friends not food- i was desperate last spring after loosing 5 ducks, a goose, 4 hens- was forced to work with them- now one is always loose, we rotate them- one during the day one at nite- it is worth trying-

I want to go to bed, but there is a thunder storm and my dogs are terrified of thunder storms so I'm staying up w/ them. It's either that or two people and an 80 lb dog and a 40lb dog and an 11lb dog in a full size bed.
