Dont know much about chicken genetics, but in pigeons lav. is milky blue is this same for chickens. Also Black is spread blue. So there is more varibals at play than meet the eye. Without knowing the background it would be hard to say.

I'm not sure where they got the lav. gene from but when people knowledgable about the Orpingtons they ask what generation they are. I am wondreing if I breed them with my blues and cull if the type would improve and still keep the lavender color?

Breed them with blacks. I forget the details of the different ways the blue gene works but the blacks gene is a "self" gene like the lavender - black x black = 100% black, blue is not so simple The lavender is also "self". That is why some people call the lavender color, self-blue.
There is a good explaination on the Lavender/Self-blue Cochin thread by a champion cochin breeder that has been working on it for a couple of years.

Can't believe how slow it is on here this morning.... everyone must be wore out after the weekend. lol I sure hated to miss but did get to visit with sme friday.

You want to use Black with the lav. Then mate the offspring back to each other. the first generation of teh cross will all be black carrying lav. The next generation you will get 50 / 50 black and lav.
Do not cross with your blue, the andalusion blue is suposed to be laced where as the lav. is not laced lav. also interacts with the andalusion blue differently and you will get dirty white or dun colored birds when the Blue throughs bl you will get Black when the bird throws BL. Hope this helps...

I was a happy daddy today.

I went out and checked on my Shamos and said here chick chick chick and instead of all running away like i was trying to pluck them, they all ran up looking at me chirping. That made me happy

Wow, that is a complex problem. In a blue x Blue isn't there a 25% chance? So Blue x Lavender = 12.5%. Somehow that solution seems too easy-

This will actually increase the probability of Black not ethe following:
BL / BL = Black
BL / bl = Blue
bl / bl = splash

add Lav
BL / LAV = Black
bl / Lav = a dun or dirty white

I have added the links to a couple of short video clips taken at POOPS. One is the auction and the other is Buster's Magic show. The kids loved him. Thanks for taking time to work with all of the kids. That's what it's all about.
