***OKIES in the BYC III ***

i just trim them with a pair of wire cutters, like you would dogs toenails, then smooth them down with the dremmel, just enough to get rid of the dagger look....

I asked someone at the sale last night what the time was and they said it was a quarter till 2 I stayed way too late LOL, it was fun though I bought a gas heater with 3 burners and it was marked Natural Gas I was told it couldn't be converted but when I looked inside it today it is for LPG so it wasn't marked right and I can use it after all that is really a good thing I needed it for my house cause the central heat won't help any if I lose power and this will save me a bit if that happens this year like it has for the last couple of years, Hope every one is having a good weekend and enjoying the warmer weather I know I am it really is wonderful I've been getting a lot done around here, I made a few nest areas for the geese and ducks around the pond I hope that I will get the next project done tomorrow I bought a pretty good sized camper trailer today and will set it tomorrow in a new area it's big enough to make a coop for a couple new pens of chickens if I set it in the right place, I think it will work out well and the tandem axle trailer will make a great new trailer for using around here...

Robin - That is the funniest chicken picture I've seen! You should submit that to the Picture of the Week here on BYC. That is too funny!

Bill - I didn't realize that you lost the Barred Rock roo. He was a sweetheart. Sorry to hear that.

Guy - Your tips of the day are very helpful. I have a Serama roo who needs a spur trimming and was just today wondering how to do that. It's probably a two person job though, huh? Not sure I want to try that by myself. I don't have a dremmel so will have to improvise with something else.

I made some tamales today. Well, yesterday and today. It was a two-day job. Cooked the meat yesterday then put them together today. It was my first time making them so it took longer than an experienced tamale maker. Haven't sampled any yet but the filling tasted good before I wrapped them up.

I actually spent the last 2 days building a 4x4x4 mini-coop for my Silkie bachelors. I've had the frame made for months and never got around to deciding what I wanted to use it for. So I ended up making it for the Silkie boys and put them in a 10x10 pen and set the coop right up against the outside of their stockade fence and cut a door leading from the pen into the coop right through the fence. It turned out super heavy so it's a good thing I got it close to where I was going to put it before adding the siding. I puffed it full of shavings and made the boys a ramp and they toddled right up into it at bedtime. Then fussed and griped at each other for 30 minutes arguing over who got to sleep where. I have to put vents in it tomorrow. I made the back side hinged so I could lift the bottom back 1/2 up to change out their shavings. I just LOVE doing this kind of stuff and have way more plans than money for it all. For my birthday I got a cheap cordless 18 volt screwdriver and circle saw kit. I put them to good use and wore down both my batteries today.

I totally hear you on more plans then money but my issue is also time. Just does not seem like enough time in the day to get things done. Over the years I have slowly acquired quite a few tools that make building an repairs easier. Like the colored socket sets I bought yesterday. Yes I sprang the extra two dollars to have pretty tools and I don't care because I am female and can do that.

Have you thought about using fence pipe to build the frames for your pens? Surprisingly they are a lot lighter to move around.
