Hey ya'll! I'm new to the BYC, having just purchased 2 silkies recently. Unfortunately, one died today and I need someone to keep my other girl company. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I'd be willing to purchase another silkie or other compatible breed. I live in Yukon. Thanks!

what am i saying! mike d can probably help you out, he is usualy at mary's swap meet om saturdays' i think. someone should have his contact info. just be careful, he can get you addicted real quickly, and you will have a "few" more chickens to take care of!

Elwood, have you tried meletonin? You can get it inexpensively at any discount store w/ a vitimin section. It is the natural sleep "chemical" your own body makes, doesn't make you groggy in the morning and if your insomnia is related to low levels of your own bodies meletonin it might help. The reccomended dose is one pill, but I take 2, and my husband takes 4 it works very well for both of us.

Thanks Kass I may try that, didn't get much sleep the night before but made up for it last night LOL I was trying to get caught up on the thread and was falling asleep I only got up 3 times during the night and was able to go back to sleep each time,

I think I found the perfect tub for my plucker I may have to cut it down to make it shorter but it's the inside insert from a steam pot or kettle out of an institutional kitchen I think it's a 100gal capacity I think it will be perfect I talked to the guy that bought it in an auction and he was going to get .82 cents a pound and offered me the whole thing for that I did the math and it's over $750 bucks I could just buy the plucker for that much LOL, anyway he figured out the insert needed to come out and he could sell me that and it's just a fraction of the weight so maybe that will work, it sure would make it a lot easier to keep clean if it were stainless steel.

All these chicks everyone is getting and hatching I really need to get my bator set up and running that's the goal for the weekend the only catch is nice weather outside makes it tough to stay inside and work LOL

What a day we got LOTS done today!!! Got the "Chicken Condo's" done. Moved the Guinea pen (not that they realize it the dumb birds. They were all nested down in the dirt where their coop had been, lol. Managed to get them to the new spot with food and calling "Here kitty kitty" (yes dh taught them that). Going to leave in a few to pick up my pretty RIR rooster. We will start on the next phase as materials are found. We are recycling old fencing our neighbor tears out from his lawn care and fencing business. Plus need to find some sheet metal. We also want to add a 50' X 10' flight coop off the condos so we can free range different breeds on different days. I need to figure out how to post pictures from my phone on here. I will try later tonight.

Okies, I just can't stay away...and I'm too impatient to wait for the pages to load. I was1320 posts behind last time..I just gave up...now I'm 800 something behind again. I've got to do better! The weather has been SO NICE, I've been taking a few birds out to sun and enjoy. I took these pictures yesterday. While we were waiting for the sun to come up a little higher we shared some crumbs (I had coffee with mine). I'm working to improve feather quality on my Silkied Serama...here's a 'hairy' one.

June that was a gorgeous Serama in the picture. He stands up so night and straight! We were just bragging on you the last day or 2 about your Seramas. I don't think they girl asking about them has come back though.

ok carl, time to get up! man you can nap, that one was almost 2 hours long!
you realy need to stop that, you wont sleep at night if you keep it up!
since my moderns are the only thing laying, thats about all i got in the bator. candled all 8 eggs last night, threw 1 clear one away and the other 7 look good. sure hope they hatch, should know mondsay/tuesday.
i gotta post baby pics too, cant let ya'll have all the fun!

Kass, the picture of you and your grandpa-I love it! My grandpa was really mean and I was scared of him, my other grandpa died before I was born. I wasn't really close to any relatives when I was growing up. Or now even.

Sheet metal went pretty cheap last Blanchard sale. Think they were 8ft & it was about $3 or so a sheet. If using your iPhone taptotalk just open advanced options & you can post pics VERY easy!!! Not sure on android based phones Buster I don't know anything about Ronnie not selling eggs @ the market. He was still adding to his flock this fall. If he is getting out all together could be a good place to buy more laying hens.

mine are bantams, good standards are too hard to find. i'm gonna try and make a BIG herd of em this year, along with old english.
