***OKIES in the BYC III ***

We are just now getting a light shower...hope we get more.

My tree order from Stark Nursery arrived as has the plant order from Gilbert H Wild and Son nursery...guess I can put the trees in big pots to tide them over until I can plant them out in the orchard. And the hostas can be healed in on trays.

No work today on the hen house expansion, but I'm going to move the shelf unit to allow for more traffic flow room for the other screen door. Better get all this figured out before they put in the electric outlets.

Hope everyone has a great day....

You sound like you know your trees. The trees I bought a week ago yesterday (that were supposed to go in the ground this weekend) are still outside in this in pots..... One of them is beginning to fruit (apricot) and all but one have leaves on them (I saw someone else post something about being behind because the tree had leaves). Have I ruined my trees before I even began?

Morning! It's pouring here and for once the dogs decided I didn't need to be pushed out of bed and slept in with me. If I didn't have to feed the goats I'd probably stay in bed and enjoy my spring break lol. Sad thing is I have no clue where my daughter put my rain boots and its a nice big puddle going all the way to the barn.

Have any of you used the dry hatch method?? I decided to try that out. No water in the bator but my humidity is perfectly in the 30's.

Next time I hatch out eggs I'm buying a turner becase turning 62 eggs every day mulitple times is for the birds. haha

As long as the pots can drain so that the roots don't stay wet, they should be okay. Keep the soil moist like a wrung out sponge until you plant.
When you do plant them, you need to wait until the ground is workable, not soggy. Dig a $40 hole for a $10 dollar tree....at least four times the diameter of the size of the pot. Should be the same depth as the evel of the trunk at dirt level. You can loosen the soil under the root ball but make sure it is at ground level or just slightly above when you set the ball in the hole. Lossen the root ball and attempt to gently spread out some of the roots. You don't need to amend the soil, contrary to popular belief. If you have clay soil, amending the soil creates a soft spot that holds water and the roots either rot or can't break out of the soft soil into the clay.

BBACRES, NNBreeder posted a link to an article on Dry hatch/ incubation. If you go up to the top of the page to the search function and type in dry incubation, you will find a lot of information from the threads here on BYC.

Raining buckets here - all the chicks know what to do but the turkeys.. they are over and over again out in this mess... I hate running out there to put them back in the coop. Might just bring the little guys in for the rain.

Thanks Nektosha for the Welcome!

Stupid is one of those relative terms. I am really good at writing but ignorant as all get out about electrical engineering. Of course people do dumb things sometimes and that does not necessarily make them stupid. If you do not believe me, let me introduce you to a couple of my exs.

I know the feeling! Back in the day I could brag about my grades...but I can't do that with a straight face now when I can't figure out how to open a sack of feed.

LOL@ the plural exes. My husband knows your pain.

Steady rain here, but still enough to soak me while I did the morning chores. The lightning didn't let up, though!
I have some guineas like your turkeys. They just haven't figured out how to stay out of the rain.
