Kass are you painting your tires to help keep from absorbing the heat? Not sure how you are set up in town, I use to plant bush squash along my fence, looked almost like a hedge.
There was a Craigslist ad today for pallets that were 2x4 heavy duty-- would be good for pens or compost. My compost is a pallet type set up & everyday it is the first place my birds flock to when I let them out. Technically if you follow the rules of quick composting you birds shouldn't play in the compost, but I am a lazy composter. I don't care if the stuff sits there for a few yrs.
My other compost was just a few tpost with some field fence in a circle. Lasted a yr then DH caught the fence with the mower. Took $200 in parts for the mower & I moved the compost away from anywhere he might get close with the mower.
Tonights dinner split pea soup & cornbread. Perfect for a cold rainy day.

No I just mostly completely buried them. I figured the extra heat will be good this spring and then by the time summer hits the tires themselves should be pretty shaded.

mefodz, I can't take a pic while she's trying to sit on my head, but here is the scaredy cat girl.

This was taken on a non storming day when she was chillaxin.

I promissed pictures earlier in the week of the Aussie/cochins cross birds. The bigger ones are 7 weeks old.
About 1/2 the chicks were black and the other 1/2 were blue.

Here is a Wyandotte Cochin cross on the left and an Aussie/Cochin cross on the right. The Cochin roo is Lavendar/Blue

These are only 2 weeks old. The two on the left are Wyandotte/Cochin and the black one on the right is an Aussie/Cochin. The others are Wyandotte and the one with the red comb is a RoseComb roo...there is a pullet in the mix on the right.

And then we have a Buff Columbian pullet and a Spangled OEGB. They are 2 weeks old.

Then Murdock..the farm cat.... Yes he is blind in one eye but a great mouser.

I have been trying in vain to order some squash seeds called zucchino Ranpicanti, or trombocino, or vining zucchini. I should have already done it, but am behind already. They seem to be out of stock everywhere does anyone on here have any extras of these seeds?

I've used my mealworms for skeletal reclamation a lot over the years all animals of course LOL Some skulls and a few whole small critters they really do a good job but the larger parts can be a tad odoriferous

Quote: There are several places in N.E. OKC and Edmond that list pallets in the free section on Craigslist, I had to quit gathering them for a while till I use up the ones I have LOL

Anybody know how to contact SJarvis? The link in her signature does not work. From what I've read at BYC I know they're in Shawnee, and they have cochins. I'm just looking for a yard chicken, not for show, so I would certainly be happy with a less-than-perfect specimen.

I am Sjarvis... Im just signed in under my husband's name.

Nanakat is right, we sold all of our large fowl. Nanakat also has my rooster and a few girls but dont know if the girls are laying yet.
