Great looking Coop and progress....just a thought...might want to slide a brick inside the concrete blocks for the future. Those blocks react to freeze and moisture. The stong side is with the holes vertical instead of horizontal. I know vertical threatens sinking into the ground, but a collapsed block would weaken your foundation.

We built a small greenhouse for my mother years ago. We tied the greenhouse down by using big eyescrews into the floor joists at the corners and buried a cinderblock tied to the screweyes with a steel cable. Oklahoma winds can be viscious on a building with a rock/brick foundation. She never had any shifting.

Thanks for the structural ideas.

The new storm door for the new section of the hen house

moved the water tank to the new hen house and set up the heat lamp. Water cooler installed in the window just needs the water tube run above the rafters.

OMG, are these girls beautiful. If you have any of those you want to part with please keep me in mind. Pretty, Pretty!!!

Good Morning Everyone, Thought I'd share this one I stumbled across for an early mornin' chuckle :)

I'm sure you're right, the funny thing is I called 5 places and only one of them would see or treat goats, I felt like I was trying to find a Vet for a reptile LOL

Been there, done that! Try to find a Vet who treats, cats, dogs, ferrets, goats, rats and reptiles. I can count on less then two hands those who do and of those less then a handful of them are trustworthy.

averytds, I just cringe at the whole attitude of doing things just like great, great ....... used to. There are many things that are better the old ways, but there are sooooo many things that can and have been improved upon. When someone says that to me, my first question is why? ................. Large rowed gardens? .................... Why? does it still apply today? Blood letting? .................. Why, does it still apply today? Bathing in the same water? .................. Why, does it still apply today?

I hear ya!

That is just wrong but funny!

I just love that picture. Unfortunately, my dog killed one of my hens today so no more dog in the chicken pen here or over at Jack's when I am helping catch birds. I thought Louie was doing so well. He ignores the birds walking around but a hen on a nest is just too much of a temptation for him.
Plus, i loved that little hen.

Oh I am sorry about your hen.

Have many of you here raised Dark Brahma chicks? My 5 are just 4 days old now and they're so calm. They just hang there in your hand staring at you when you pick them up, they're awesome. They're not sick, as soon as you put them down with their buddies they run all over the place eating and playing.
I love this calmness. Is it a Dark Brahma thing? Are Buff and Light Brahmas calm, too?
Oh, and MJ-I'm so sorry about your hen. I don't trust any of my dogs for a split second.

Dark Brahmas are some of the most laid back birds I have ever had. Well the standard ones are, bantams not so much. I love them but have too much else on my plate to get into them right now. Enjoy them!

The key to buying auction birds is isolate, and quarantine no mater what they look like. When you consider all the thousands of birds that come thru an auction site every year, the most healthy of fowl can bring home a bug. A sick bird comes thru, poops, sneezes, or coughs on the ground, then another cage is set there and the chickens do the same and then on and on. Healthy bird comes thru and is set on this same ground, well you get the picture. It is not the auctions fault. Is is just the way it is. Same way with poultry shows. if you take birds to a show, or buy birds at an auction, ISOLATE and QUARANTINE.

Amen Brother!!!

The rain & warm weather has my guineas & chickens working over time. They are chasing bugs all over the place. Hope they keep up the hard work!

Love all the pics, new babies are so much fun.

has anyone tried putting vet wrap around the neck of a bird being plucked? Captains feathers are starting to come back in, but don't want them plucked again...

I should have the Tshirt post up soon~ Looks like the colors will be independence Red & Caribbean blue. Hopefully everyone will like that. Previews soon as I get them.

Monty, I would love to be getting a sore back instead of a sore butt from sitting here.

I'll add this to my OK Auction list!

I got some info on the auction in Walters
Chickens will sale 7 pm Monday April 9
Consignment starts 4. ---- they said they will allow misc stuff but it will sale 6-7 anything not yet sold will go to the end. They are hoping for lots of Texas folks to attend.
After April the auction will be 1st Monday of the month in Walters on main st.
I am sure even more info will follow.
I left Blanchard about 1230 & they were still selling birds. DD fell asleep about 5 min before home, she played hard tonight. We got home & set the eggs in the incubator-- she went straight to sleep.
While I was at the auction DH worked on the garden fencing & put headlights on the zero turn. Then of course he had to test out the headlights so he mowed about an acre.
Tomorrow is suppose to be a beautiful day, better get some sleep so I can spend the day playing in the sunshine.

My Serama hen still hasn't passed her egg. Does anyone know of a veterinarian who sees chickens? The vet I've used before isn't in until Wednesday and I've called 6 other places.

I've taken quite a few to Dr Zinn at Four Corners vet in Guthrie. Their number is 282-4821
Here's a web page with directions and info about them. You take I-35 all the way to the *2nd* Guthrie exit and go east about 1/4 mile. It's right on the left where the 4 streets join together. He's a great guy and saved several of my chickens lives literally.

Never tried it but it's worth a shot. I pretty much know the outcome with my birds if I tried putting a chicken in a pen with pretty colored vet wrap around his neck.
Let us know how it goes
