***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Robin the egg will be clear or will have a blood ring. Or it will just not look like the others.
I know that was real helpful right! We use to question ourselves in the beginning & crack the eggs open before lock down to make sure we were seeing things correctly. DD & I have never yet found a chick when we didn't expect it. Usually if you think it is a dud it is.
Last month there was an egg that didn't look full grown & DD was going to toss it, but then it chirped! Glad we didn't toss it! If the egg looks like it is filling in you could have missed the veins. Is the airsac growing. Maybe you could use a pencil & mark the airsac??

Just finished my lunch. Har to get milk from braums so figured i should eat something since i havent har anything all day. Anyone who likes blue cheese needs to go to Braums & get a bacon blue cheese burger. I am in love. Think I have eaten 3 this month already! Hate when they have speciality burgers & then they take them away!!! Guess I will need to try to duplicate it at home.

THE TICKS ARE BAD AGAIN THIS YEAR. HEED THIS WARNING!
If someone comes to your front door saying they are checking for ticks due to the warm weather and asks you to take your clothes off and dance around with your arms up,
DO NOT DO IT!! THIS IS A SCAM!!
They only want to see you naked.
I wish I'd gotten this yesterday... I feel so stupid.
Oh crap. I should've followed my instincts and shut the door on them. I hope the neighbors didn't see
hmm.png
But did you have any ticks?

Now that's just too Funny!
yuckyuck.gif

I don't have neighbors where they could see and I didn't have to slam the door on'em,
I just figured it was cause I did have ticks that they run'd off like they did

Candled eggs last night I had figured I would cull some and that would make room for the next set to go in but only had to pull 6 so this hatch is going better than the last so far anyway, I like it when you can see lots of movement in the egg as well as the developing chick that makes it so much easier to tell the Buff Orpington eggs are fairly easy to see but the Welsummer are so tough to see through it's hard to see movement much less the embryo or veins growing some I just had to put back in and hope that they don't blow up as a way of letting me know they were no good LOL I didn't smell any that were foul so have my fingers crossed

well, this one egg was cracked so i glued it early on, now it has shown development, but never did see veins- now when it is candled- day22- the dark area, a semi dark area(reddish apaque) and the airsac... any chance its a late hatcher or just not going to? will try to take a pic tonite

BlanchardOK where are you? I know what you mean I was offline 3 days and had to catch up on well over 200 posts. Everyone seems to be doing well. NOW. Cowboy. Looking at the posts. BlanchardOk if you still want some Quail they hatched a couple days ago but only got 39 (live) out of 100 eggs. I'm lucky to have that many with the electricity going off for over 2 hours one night. I can still part with 2 or 3 of each type I have Texas A&M, Giant Brown, and either Tibetian or Tuxido (maybe both). A couple have yellow bellies with dark chocolate upper. I've got one Texas A&M that NEVER shuts up, You can CERTAINLY have it. The only bird I've got that I have ever named. SQUEEKER.

BFRANCIS- I have tried 4 times to answer you q's from ages ago but I can't seem to be able to post And I'm not sure it'll work this time but I have Partridge Rock chickens besides the Quail. Got some 5-6 week old and the 3 day old ones (Same Breeds) about 40 older ones. The P rocks are going on 3 months(19 of em) and I have ONE heritage dominique(all that lived from a weekend shipment in January). Out of 32 birds shipped 20 survived. I think you call the quail New World??

Cowboy- take care of yourself.
Kass enjoyed the vids:)
And to all the rest of you I REALLY enjoy reading about your tales. Have a great day.

From the descriptions and names, and looking at your pics, you've got "Coturnix" quail. They would be considered "Old world". They originate in Asia. I've got tons of Coturnix as well....neat little buggers! Got 12 different colors myself.

The "New World" would be the ones native to North and South America...like the Bobwhite family, the Californian Valley, Gambel's, Blue Scaled, etc.

If you haven't, you should check out the quail section in the BYC, too...if you google New and Old World quail, it will give you a better description

Bet those P-Rocks look neat...only seen pics of them...I like the heritage breeds myself.

Spent 4 hrs or so finishing the Bantam Faverolles pen, they've been living in a 4x8 pen. I'm to the point now of just adding on to the previous set of pens. I've still got tons of room, getting ridiculous.
Little Sparky is the one with the bum legs. It might be his tendons like Nana talked about. He wobbles and hops on one leg most the time. Well, my husband drags these wooden boxes home from work by the truckload and they made perfect steps to go into the coop. The Faverolles can all hop right up into the coop but little Sparky needed handicap accomodations so I used the wooden boxes to make steps for him, poor little guy. He doesn't seem to be getting worse though. These little Faverolles girls are sweet! I just love them. In looking at the pictures it would seem I put too much straw in there. There's a hole cut in the pickets that leads into their 4x4 coop behind the fence.I didn't want to take up room putting it inside the pen.
