***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Thanks, Carl. If you could PM his contact info it would be much appreciated.

If others have layers to sell, I'm still interested. I want to get my current laying flock up to 200 and have a long way to go. I'm raising some little ones to further fill up the rolling cotton coop.

I'll try to find it for you. May take me a few days or a week to get back with you but thats how it is right now.

My daughter texted my husband on the way home and asked if we got anything. He had me text her back because he was driving. I told her about the chicks and "this gorgeous OEGB rooster". She texted back and said, "This must be mom to use "gorgeous & rooster" in the same sentence."

He's a baby, too, not even any spur bumps. Jim, I know I was going to give Dewey Crow to you, but then when he died I felt terrible, he was such a sweetheart. I'm going to give this little guy 3 or 4 girls and fix him up a nice place. The little ones are so easy to take care of. See? If you were a women, wouldn't you call him gorgeous?? His name is Spencer.

You're welcome! I'm glad I finally got to talk to you face to face. Everyone, that Light Brahma hen he had was awesome. I love how their eyebrows make them look like Eagles. He wouldn't sell her though, I tried lo
He is very pretty, I love crele. I love colorful birds. But a shiny black bird with a bright red comb is really beautiful and so is a blue bird..............

Do you have a Orpington in with your hens? I'd be interested in some eggs if you do.
I have 11 Buff Orpington hens and a huge Roo all in one pen there are also two Buff Minorca hens in there with them but I can tell them apart (the eggs that is) I have been putting all their eggs in the bator but I have plenty I get around 9 a day from them. just let me know and I'll save you some

That'd be awesome, Bill! I've got the LF Faverolles & the Cuckoo Marans separated if you want either of those eggs. I've got the Silkies separate, too, but somehow you just don't seem like the Silkie kinda' guy

Oh, it'd be mid-May that I'd have the incubator cleared out to hatch them. I'll remind ya then though.

My favorite thing about black birds is the green or purple sheen in the sun.

Oh Nana, I love them!! If you breed white to black or blue will you always get white? I'm going to have to put a pure white Cochin on my list!

There are two kind white genes. One is dominant and one is recessive. You can tell at hatch because their down colors are different. I learned that from Bo and I think he has both in his flock. Chicken genetics is interesting but not easy - I need to study!

That is based on which Black ( there are 17 genetic variations that create black) and which white, what was in thier background. The calculator makes assumptions that can be manipulated if you know what you have. As an example a Birchen Based Dominant Black over an extended black based recessive white should be black.

Woah, Rocket Science!

Put in another full day in the garden. I think I need one more day of planting then should only need to focus on maintenance & succession planting. Fingers crossed no more storms, or I will be in the market for more plants.

Candled eggs tonight. I started with 5 dz & now only have 3 dz fertile Fancy guinea eggs that have the possibility of hatching in time for poops. I know the weeks ahead I will see improved fertility.

Anyone in need of a good listening dog I have a 4yr old spayed female golden retriever mix, she is about 60 lbs. been here 4 days, doesn't touch the free range chickens or guineas, understands no & is better behaved than my other 3 dogs. (seriously she wont step foot in my garden & i only told her no once-- my boys been telling them to stay out of the garden for 2 months) Sad to say she HATES small dogs. She has tore into both our smaller dogs numerous times. But respects the pyrenees & they are best of friends. DH says she needs to go, the owners retired from the military & moved away. That is how she ended up here. Wished she would work out here, but breaking up dog fights all day is no fun.

You have many many years to go with the Birds and don't need to understand it all just what affects your flock and what you want to change them and what you might use to make those changes. You and I both know that any line or variety cross within a breed will take at least 3 generations to see the results and Breed to breed will be at least 5 generations to get where you want to be. Now choosing what to add to what thats where you need to know what you have and what your adding.

like i said, lots and lots of phone numbers!

i do have a book that i right things down in, just have a hard time reading what i wrote.

Off to feed, water, check on everyone and eveything now that dinner is out of the way. Then off to get cleaned up and ready for 2 am since tomorrow is my long day. See yall in a day or two or as time allows.

Have a safe trip to work. Hope you get the chance for some rest later this week.
