***OKIES in the BYC III ***

How does this "friend" thing work? Is that where you have to be nice even when you don't feel like it? Listen to their dramas at midnight when they call crying? And you can't click an 'X' to get rid of them?
I'm remembering why I don't have friends........

You would think we would have at least gotten a sprinkle!

My multi/reply button didn't pick up all the threads I wanted to answer...so:
Glad everyone survived the storms

Loving the NN Pics Kass...I think Mrs White may be Mr White looking at the saddle feathers. Shakespear is definitely a boy...not sure on the Barred one...those saddle feathers sure look round. Love Reba.

Yes, the pie was delicious

The 4 Chicks are going to have a blast at NEOCS...gunmama is going to get that fridge and stove...I just feel it!

Ksane...you have loads of friends here!

Moved Minerva nd Delilah back into the layer house last evening after dark. They both laid an egg yesterday and their chicks are 6 weeks old. I'm going out to mow now....and water the garden.
Need to collect corn pollen and brush the silks too. I know Mother Nature is supposed to do that but we had such high winds the past few days, I don't think the pollen fell onto the silks....it's in the next county.

I got Brown Red Bantam Ameraucana eggs a week ago from a really good breeder, he sent me a total of 18 eggs and I only bought 10 so I was happy about that. The Brown Red color in males is awesome and in females it's black with gold head and neck-very pretty. Anyway-14 of those eggs are fertile and growing. Then last week I lucked across a lady with Araucanas-tufted and rumpless. She was so nice! And ended up sending me *16* eggs, can you believe it? I had been going to get BangoJoe's beautiful Brown Red Araucana hen (the black with gold head and neck) but talked to him about it and decided to try my luck with the eggs instead of bringing in any adult birds. I was supposed to have gotten adults of another breed from someone else and decided against that also. I'm done bringing in adults and I'm not getting any more birds, period, from auctions or swaps. It's not easy to hatch Araucana because the tufted gene is lethal and some birds die in the shell if they inherit both copies of the gene (if I got that right). But I just LOVE the little no-butt birds! So now we're moving the Guinea eggs out under one of the broodys so I have room for all these eggs in the incubators.
It's so very tempting to get adult birds but I'm just tired of the endless quarantine and then having to worry about integrating them. And even if the new bird is perfectly healthy one of mine may end up making it sick (had that happen in the layers yard). Those of you who get lucky bringing in adults, more power to you. I'm going to have to stick to hatching from now on.
I do want to publicly thank Joe for being willing to let me have his Araucana hen. He knew how bad I wanted her and because of that he was going to give her to me. Very few people have been willing to do that for me even though I do it for others all the time. So thanks, Joe, I've found you to be a very kind person.

hi guys, i have a chick that keeps having his hip pop out of joint- any suggestions to keep it in? he is a couple weeks old
Robin, that's the problem the little one I've got that I named Sparky. It's like his hip joint kept popping out of socket until it finally just stayed that way. I suppose I should do something like take him in and have the bad leg amputated but he manages to get around and it's not life threatening so I haven't done anything about it yet. I tried splinting it and taping it and that was just a fiasco. After seeing how well your little Modern does with 1 leg I know he'd do fine. I hope you can figure something out with yours.

Poco here are some pics of the chickie doos today

Ms White still hoping against all odds is a girl

Shakespear still thinking is a boy

Two of the black "girls" I think?

I change my mind everyday on whether this one is a girl or boy

Reba, still all girl.
The pictures show rounded saddle feathers. This is a good sign. No crowing yet? -- Oh, and congrats on the mouse catching. That's an excellent trait in a chicken.
