***OKIES in the BYC III ***

This is the beginning of my side wall which will attach to the shed on one side and the post on the other. I will be putting more 2X4's in the center of this frame. I will worry about the slope of the roof later.
Quote: I am mainly only afraid of power saws. All of my life people would say things like "those saws will jump right out of your hand", etc. talking about circular saws. I have seen many men lose a finger by being in a hurry or careless too. I think one day I will try using a table saw instead. Of course I will need instructions. Another thing is I don't want to be out there alone using a power saw I know nothing about, just in case it gets out of control. LOL

This is the side of my shed. The side of shed is 12 ' I need to set another post where the doors will be I guess. They will be on the left side of the picture because I am wanting to have two 6 foot wide by 7 - 1/2 foot deep shelters for the chickens and then I will build a run for them to extend out about 12' from the pen.

I used to incubate eggs years ago. Just getting back into so maybe next spring. Can't wait. I know your excitement about it all.

Kass - Just got home. The two new converts are eating like little piggies. I made some warm mash and added a bit of plain yogurt. It's not nearly as good as your homemade yogurt. I'm going to have to find my spare azalea pots and make myself a yogurt cooker : ) I put the possible pullet back in with her friends. I'll know in a few weeks if her previously boisterous attitude was all an act. Looking forward to pictures. Thanks so much for documenting the C-ing process today. Maybe when the basement and yard are put back together we can schedule a meeting here.

Too many posts for me to catch up now. Looks like everyone is busy, busy, busy. The weather is beautiful. I hope it is this nice on Saturday.

Pizza's ready! Maybe I'll have time to check the thread tonight.

Elie. Hope your daughter is still improving. So glad you took her in to find out what was going on.

Any carpenters out there feel free to jump in and tell me if I need to do something different to my chicken pen that I am building. I need all the advice I can get. Thanks everyone. Will check back periodically.

I am not a building expert, the only thing I can say is plenty of safe ventilation! Summers are brutal on them.

Ksane: Let me get through tomorrow and I may have a space for them. A friend of mine might come over and help me finish the Dominques's new coop. If that happens, then I will have some empty brooder space. I'll let you know. I am sorry about the one little one that you lost. I'm excited to get more guineas. I bought a dozen from Jcatblum, but you really can't have too many.

You all did the caponizing?? (Is that a word?) I want to hear all about it!!!
I would so seriously drive the 2 hrs and pay you what a cat neuter would cost for you to do mine. I think you have to do them young as possible, right? What age? I konw there's a risk but it would be worth a lot to me to be able to hatch out a batch of 3 or 4 of my own eggs here and know I could keep them all!

You should look at Signature homes, they are built real well, all drywall inside, feel like a stick built home. Have a better flooring system. We almost went with one but was able to find a property with a suitalbe house. We were looking at raw land and putting up a prefab home.

Well, after poco's fine instruction there may be no safe testes!!!! (insert evil laugh and wringing of hands)

no no no no,,,,,,, sweet jesus no dont let her have that knowledge!!!!!

no male is safe in their own homes any longer!

the world will be full of,,,,,,,,capons!

hide the dog!!!!! hide the cat!!!!!!! crap, you better hide yourself!!!!!!!!

Quote: Thanks Kass. I am thinking about the doors on the South side. The back wall is on the North side. The front will have alot of hardware cloth and I'm thinking about putting a window on each side "East and West" side of pen with possible hatch type doors to close for the winter or bad weather with a good latch to keep critters out. A run will be available to the chickens on the South side also but I will let them free range when I am home. The entire coop part will be roofed but the pen will all be hardware cloth so I buy a roll every chance I get. I had my share of snakes and don't want to take any chances anymore, especially with broody hens.
