***OKIES in the BYC III ***

NanaKat, Tweety and Chad are just as cute as they can be. You would think being on starter/grower food they wouldn't be lacking any nutrients unless she got them from a small town feed mill. Sometimes, they don't put enough protein in their feed and it causes rickets. I lost about 7 baby ducks because of some I bought from a local feed plant here. I only buy starter feed that is from a known company now like purina or someone. The bugs will do them good too. By this time tomorrow, they will love their new home and being able to get out the cage. Keep us updated on what is going on with them.

Okay! Mystery solved! My little Cochin roo is not secretly laying eggs. My silkie steals eggs and walks with them like a penguin. Saw her today scoop up an egg and roll it onto her feet then shuffle - shuffle - shuffle till she got it where she wanted it, then she rolled it into the nest box. I would never have known she was carrying an egg if I hadn't seen her scoop it because her feathers cover it up. Anyway, she must have done that last time we moved the coop, because I emptied the nest box out totally. No way that egg was hiding in there!

Does anyone else have silkies? I thought they were mostly an ornamental breed, but this little thing laid six eggs this week. That's super productive!

Where is the video? This should win "Funniest Home Videos" $100,000 jackpot!

I have some MannaPro that says it is crumbles starter for game including ducks and geese. Do you think that would be okay to use with the goslings?

The chicks from Bfrancis can come out tomorrow. We will try to take some pics. I hatched them in the Eco -- so they are hard to count piled on top of each other!

We are going to white water bay in the AM & then more house shopping. Gotta get feed this wk-- don't think I will do a bulk order this time, with all the moisture that has been hangin around I don't want moldy feed. Buster I can't believe the amount of feed you are going through! I hope you make out well in bird sales.

Quote: Should be fine. Game starter usually has higher amounts of protein and vitamins than regular chick starter. I used to just give mine the regular chick starter and they did fine on it. I give it to them until they are about 3-4 months old, then I gradually start adding a little cracked corn and later on they get laying pellets. I don't bother with the chicken scratch cause they waste the milo in it and it doesn't seem to be as good as the laying pellets. I used to raise Pekins. It is possible it could be an illness with the knee though so start checking out the types of illnesses that can possibly affect them. Good luck with them. They are adorable.

They hatched anything I put under them, only problem was, you could only put about 4 eggs under them cause they are so small. I love them. Happy they're here! It's hard to believe it's been 21 days already...wow!

DD is felling much better we went out and picked plums and sand plums and then juiced them we now have 3 gallon of plum juice and 1 gallon of sand plum juice. Tomarrow is work till 3 then black berry picking then juicing. Then lots of jelly making how fun. I'm beat so much going on don't know how I'm gonna get it all done. I need 5 extra hours in the day. A friend in Tennessee ask me a question that someone on here may have the answer to. He said he was driving through a small town not on any map but they had a general store, filling station,an auction barn and a small flea market. At the flea market an old man was selling chickens and guineas and what really caught his eye was some chickens that were feathered in exotic colors, like jungle parrots that you sometimes see. He told him they were chickens and not what they looked like. He wanted $35.oo a piece but you had to buy two. He said he passed but has regretted it every since. They were the most beautiful birds he's ever seen. He was hoping we could tell him what kind of chickens they were. Any ideas?
