Don't know yet, this is my first year to grow heirlooms. I had always thought the hybrids had more disease and pest resistance, but I want to start seed saving so this year I have switched to heirloom (or at least not hybrid) on almost everything. I am trying multiple varieties this year and will keep the best performers/tasters for next year and try some other's I didn't get this year that I wanted to try.

How about anyone else, what heirlooms have you tried and been good or bad especially through our infamous Okie summers.

Sounds like Buddy is exceptionally lucky to have found your home.

Anyone heard from Donnie lately? No answer to my PM yet. Hope he's doing okay.

Robin - One of the buff orps sat on my shoulder today. I was on one knee filling a feeder and she flew up and perched. What a sweetie.

I need some suggestions for making places for the geese to nest I have plastic 55 gal drums and a pile of old tires (should be growing taters in some) I have some ideas but not sure whats the norm for them as in where to put it? and how large it needs to be? does it need to be covered? ect.. I'm going to put in a door at the end of thier pen so they will have all day access to the pond thinking about an automatic door that opens at dawn then closes at dark, should be easy enough to build....
edited cause I can't help picking it apart LOL

I think Marglobe is an heirloom and it does great in our gumbo/clay. Gives a good slicing tomato that rarely gets back to the house.

Have salt will eat!!

Les! You made me laugh - my Grandpa used to head out to the garden in the morning with the salt shaker in his hand, and Grandma used to say "Rellis! Bring something back for everyone else!"
(My grandpa's name was Rellis...my other grandad's name was Guilford...I've never heard those names anywhere else...)

old*cowboy :

Off subject sorta. I am looking for 1 or 2 young doe milk goats. Nubian is first choice, but would consider other breeds. Guy

If you are headed south (way south) let me know, I know some folks with nubians and lamanchas and some other milkers. They always sell a few. Whatcha doin with milk goats?
