McGuyver, I go around 1 by 1 and individually worm each one. It's easier now because each group has their own yard with anywhere from 2-12 birds per yard.
There's a ton of controversy concerning using Ivomec as a wormer, I'm not going to start an argument but do a bit of research. It's my opinion it's useless except for mites and lice.

Oh, I certainly won't hold up a single thing I did my first time around as actually knowing anything. Not sure I really figured out my arse from a hole in the ground that time around. All I came away with is Quarantine - good. Depopulating flock - bad.

Just went out to see what Shiloh was barking about. There was a pair of beutiful deer in the back yard. I don't know a lot about deer and what sizes mean, but these were pretty big and one had smallish antlers. Didn't get a good enough look at him to see how developed they were. The weren't unduly alarmed by Shiloh, but my being there too made them move off, but not in a panic by any means. Seems an odd time of day for deer to be out. Our entire two acres are fenced, but not with anything that will stop deer.

Time to worm again, but will wait until after Monday's rain so things will be cooler....hopefully. Worming is necessary, but can be stressful. I do my application of Ivomec at night when the girls are on the roost. I can pick one up, clip her nails and put drops between the shoulders. Clipping the toenails helps me know which ones I've done.
Wazine is what I use on the young birds.

Had a Cochin pullet get overheated outside today. Put her in a low tub of water and cooled her down. Put her inside in a cage with the swamp cooler...electrolites in water and feed. She is already preening.
So glad to see the clouds today...made it a few degrees cooler at times.

How do you all accomplish worming? I did my flock last year with ivomectin. I got the paste in a tube, mixed some with butter, and spread it on whole wheat bread, then gave every chicken a "treat". I'm sure there's a more precise way though.
You can use the paste or injectable, its available in both forms as well as pour on. I don't think the pour on works as well on worms as it does lice and mites but I ussually use the injectable since it's easy to control the dosage. I also use Valbazen, as a drinking water solution for the birds as well though its a common sheep / goat / hog wormer or you can use the wormer pellets for sheep goats and hogs

Thank you. Pellets sound easy. I have a lot of research to do.

What kind do you want? I have a hatch going now, and young birds running out of my ears and overflowing pens..

Sigh. I love Da' Spot.
MJ, will you sell eggs from your flock? I've wanted Cochins from you since I joined the list and am still heartbroken over losing my little Black cockerel. He had so many feathers on his legs it looked like 1 stubby fat leg. I'd love to have some Mille Fleur &/or Calico eggs, a black or 2. The only way I'll feel safe in my head mixing them with the others I've hatched is by hatching them myself.

I candled my 24 Bantam Ameraucana eggs and *21* of them have nice veins and are wigglers. Course last time 13 went into lockdown and only 5 hatched so we'll see. I've got Lavenders, Birchen, Blues, Whites and 2 Silvers. I'm excited.
I also have 8 eggs saved up from the BR hen and BBR Araucana roo from Joe. These guys' temperament is amazing-super calm and just darling. I'm trying to decide if I should set them this weekend.
MJ? If you could sell me 8 eggs I could hatch them altogether....hint hint lol
Me too - if you want bantam Cochins.
Bantam Cochins are kind of like spinach; either you love them because they are so sweet and cute or hate them because they are so sweet and cute. Me? I am popeye!
