***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Cathie they definately need something for warmth at a few days of age, also make are they can't get wet.
Retired army wife I think the only reasonable answer would be get more chickens! Yours need someone to teach them to chase bugs.
I decided no more chickens until after we sell the house and move. They do eat them. Maybe they just aren't very good hunters.

Good morning everyone, well it looks like we missed out on the rain completely this time! We could sure use some. I bought another Toppy rooster last Sat. he is a BluePyle marked bird, will try to get pics to show. We have been baby siting my BIL Pit but, she is a sweet heart but has woke us up every night about 1 or 2 am , not used to the night sounds around here I guess. Here is a pic of her. Lynn

Pretty dog. Maybe she misses daddy.

Christina our guineas are slowing down on laying as well. I am wondering about letting the breeders out of their pen to free range with the rest. I will mark the pairs so I know who belongs to who so if we need to pen them again we can. But I really would like the pen space they are using and I do have 22 guineas keets in one hoop house and 18 more in a 10x20 dog pen that are a bit younger than the ones in the hoop house. Plus the almost 8 dozen eggs in the incubator, lol.

I hope to make it to Blanchard this weekend but Jackson goes to camp tomorrow and doesn't come home until Sat at 3pm so hubby might not be up to going after being at camp with Jackson over night. Plus we need to catch up with Kurtis' cousin he has some chain link panels he is going to sell us for cheap. they are 6' tall and 10' long and he has 11 of them. That will finish me up on coops. Once I weed out what I don't want I will have tons of pen space. I hope this gives me space to move young birds to new pens each week so they don't burn up the ground and have grass to munch on and bugs to catch all the time.

Tomorrow is going to be garden catch up day. I am going to get the rows for the fall okra and tomatos tilled and get them planted. Really wanting to plant corn as well but we have so many around us selling corn for cheap I could pretty much buy it and not take up that space in the garden, lol. I do need to find a salsa recipe I like sweet salsa and hubby likes HOT salsa. So I want to put up both so we can both be happy, haha.

Hope everyone has a great day, my last work day for the week and I will be working in a satalite office instead of here so a little bit of change will do good.

Will catch up on the thread later...ya'll were busy last night.
Gotta run to the grocery store for more pickling supplies. SIL sent a bushel of cukes this morning...can't let any of those go to waste. Put up almost 4 gallons with the last batch of cukes she sent.
Also put up 13 quarts of Soup Starter yesterday.
Amazing how summer canning can run thru the spice cabinet.

The chicks are growing like weeds and the LF younguns are eatting me out of house and home. Down to 100 # of feed. We go thru 50# in 2 days. So I'll stop by the feed store too.

Welcome to any new folks I've missed.

Coral have you had humidity issues in the house since the basement flood? That could influence your hatches. This season I have done dry incubation & most hatches have gone well. Last yr it was so dry I had to work to keep the humidity up.
Our last hatch goes on lock down Sunday then I plan on bubble wrapping both sportsmans & the hatcher -- they will be stored in the shed until spring. We will keep the brinsea Eco out for any eggs we NEED to incubate.
My guineas have just about stopped laying. They are hating this heat. We are string about 1/3 of the chicken eggs we use too.
Kass I haven't pruned any other tomatoes yet, a few from last wk have began rooting. I need to prun more but life is busy! I did manage to plant 3 lbs of corn seed this AM while the kids picked for market tomorrow. I will go back out this evening & pick tomatoes & maybe a few other things. Forgot to look & see if the greenbeans we planting last wk were germinating.
Buster if they are going to send those magazines to the sale you should request they list them on eBay. Might as well get all you can out of them!
I need to get busy on trimming the tomatoes too, but keep getting side tracked.

The Abu whatever tomatoes have started bearing, they do okay in the heat, but don't seem to be that much better then some of the others, and I'm not that fond of the taste, okay, but nothing to write home about.
