***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I have 2 free guineas if anyone wants them. If I can't get rid of them they will have to go to freezer camp. PM me if you're interested. They're about 5 months old.

I've never had that kind so I don't have a clue. But they sure all 4 looks like roosters.
Ya, the lady insisted that they were all pullets as well, but as they started growing their combs, they started looking like roos to me... thats too bad because they are the sweestet little things ever!!!

Congrats on the new chicks and the impoending hatches. I'm down to 4 eggs in the incubtor due to hatch Aug 3. Thehot weather has affected the fertility ...anything over 90 degrees...sheesh!

I'm planning to have as many of my advanced art students enter their work in the Tulsa State Fair fine arts competition as possible. If you have a favorite chicken, turkey, duck, peacock, etc. photo that you would "loan" to me to use as a model, I'd appreciate it. Students will study photographs (for most of the entries photos work best because they don't move around and the light doesn't change), make preliminary drawings, and then use what they learned to complete a graphite pencil drawing, colored pencil drawing, or a watercolor painting. I've got a few photos to use, but kids like choices, so I could use a few more.

Casper, our white barn cat, got into a tussle with something nasty last night. Her right ear is scratched and bitten. I've cleaned and medicated the ear, and she didn't mind too much, but now I'm concerned that we've got another nighttime predator that has made it past Vesta. It could be another cat... Vesta doesn't go after cats, and she might not notice a cat that's not part of our regular clowder, or would it be clutter of cats? I don't know the difference between a glaring of cats and a pounce of cats. A doubt of cats must be domestic and indoors, as are a nuisance of cats: also house cats. Who came up with the stuff? I need more coffee : (

Edited Again: If you have insect or plant photos you could loan the use of, let me know. I've seen some amazing photos over the years on this thread. I'd like you to say it's okay to use the photos as models, though, so you'll know that one or more of my students is doing his or her best to render the image in a medium other than photography. I never want my students to "take" images and claim them. I've insisted and will continue to insist that they get permission to use the work of others, even if it's just for inspiration.
Do you want us to send photos thru your PM or can you PM me an address?

Check the feathers on the back above the tail. If they are rounded they are pullets. Here is a picture of my older Delaware hens.

Lost Ima Jean last November. She was 3 years old. Even the hens have a nice sized comb and wattles. The next is Nancy. She is huge!

The juvenile will have more black in their wings and will loose many of those with their adult molt. The Delaware are a lovely bird with sweet dispositions and are good layers and meat birds.

Nice birds Kass, I like to see them growing. I have a bantam Cochin with spots like Mensa.
Love it Kass! I really like NN's. I think when I'm ready to expand my flock I'll get this breed. We lost a NN yesterday. I don't know why. I don't think it was the heat. The other NN's had been ignoring her for about a week and she was acting needy to me. I tried to give her some extra attention, but I guess there was just something not right about her. Does anybody else notice chickens being more friendly to humans before they pass away? I noticed this with the buff juvenile I had that passed away awhile back. It seems easier to lose them if they die of what must be natural causes. She was still young barely a juvenile.

Nice birds Kass! I never thought I'd like NN's but after seeing yours I'm growing fonder of them.

Haven't had time today to call the drug people but I am planning on doing so. It's nuts to have to deal with these people not to mention worrying that they are going to blow something up or kill my birds with their fumes.

Got the birds moved into their new digs tonight. They were not happy about the move at first and ran around the pen in circles instead of actually going in the door but after we put them inside we left the light on for about 45 minutes and left them alone. When we went out to turn off the light, the turkeys were all perched together on the windowsill with our rooster with them and all the girls were on the roost across the house. They seem to have settled down just fine so we'll see what tomorrow brings.

Here's two of the turkeys and one of our barred rocks checking out their new house before we were quite finished.

You would think if they're growing they would be nice to there neighbors. Stay under the radar. I guess arrogance and/or stupidity makes them act out.
