***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Emach, it does look like an injury. I don't have a clue what kind of birds they are but the laced looking one with the bad eye is pretty! They do all look like they're boys.

I need to find a home for the purebred Araucana male I have. He's double tufted (curls growing out the side of his face) but has a tail, he's 5 wks old. He's free, is anyone interested?
I also think the one with the eye injury is a male, he makes that "treat noise" like a rooster does for his hens while eating... Im not sure if only roosters do that noise or what, but he does it quite a bit!

Okay, Here is a picture of the chickens eye I was talking about yesterday. What do you all think? and also what breeds are these babies? Anyone know? Thanks for the help once again!

I'm with Ksane on this, looks like an injury. chicks like to peck at shiney things and as she said brooder injuries are common.

Thanks, I just hope its not going to cause him/ her future problems. I have to baby him like crazy! I have to let him eat by himself because all of the other chickens gang up on him! I have to put him on his roosting pole at nigh because he cant hop up there, and when he gets scared of the other chickens, he runs to my feet and stands on them... he likes to be held like no other chicken I have ever known!

having games through the years we have had "blinkers" and even birds that were totally blind and they have all done fine. About the only thing that I would reccomend is that you don't move feeders or wateres around so they can be easily found. I will usually find a running buddy for the bird as well. They will help the bird get around.

Ya, I figured out last night not to move them around after he went to the same spot the feeder was in before I moved it. So far, I have become his running buddy, I love it but at the same time its driving me insane! He wants me to constantly hold him!! Even when Im doing my chores in the house! AND HE LOVES TO TALK TO THE TV! He makes chirps that I have never heard before only when he hears the TV!

I happened to see my "One legged" Roo top one of my hens yesterday! I really thought that he would never be able to do that! I was really surprised! I think maybe because she was willing, and he didnt have to fight, is the only way he was able to get it done?

<--- maybe I can get a few of these soon!!

Lost an older hen last night. She was hot two days ago and I've babied her with water and ice but she just didn't recover.
The temps are going to be hot thses next few days...we have been having 113 and 114 and are projected to have hotter. Last year our hottest day was 118 at home.
Checked the pumpkin patch and under the canopy of leaves there are some nice sized pumpkins and winter squash.
Got to go move the hoses again.
Everyone stay cool.
