***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Mitzi, a good momma hen will keep those babies nice and warm. Had a silkie hen get caught in a storm once. Every baby was nice & dry she was a cold wet rat. I blow dried her out & then gave the babies back. She was mad, but I was scared about her being wet & cold with the babies.
Told kids I wasn't sure we would make it to the fair so Alexis made funnel cakes for dinner-- yep we are eating healthy tonight! I had marinaded shrimp, but honest forgot all about it, oh well.
I told ours we may not go either and their only question was "we still get to go to the auction this weekend don't we?" LOL We had Sonic for dinner so your funnel cakes were probably better for you than that!

Thanks, MacGuyver and Christina. I thought she'd keep them warm enough, too. I'm going to build them a 4x8 coop 6' tall this weekend and put them in one of those 10x10 dog kennels, I'm so happy and excited I to know this hen is alive and well after thinking she was dead for weeks.
Cathie, you should get a Net10 phone, that's what I've got. No down payment, no contract, no nothing. Unlimited data and text is $50/mo or 750 min/mo for $25. I don't use many minutes so I have the $15/mo plan with 200 minutes, they roll over if you don't use them. The Unlimited and 750 min plans don't roll over but it's usually cheaper than what people are paying for at&T. Check out some of the other prepaid plans, you'll never want contract phones again.

We may go that route next time. I just have yet to find someone that has service out here. We had Sprint before and we didn't get anything at home! Plus dropped calls all the time. Now with ATT no calls at home but I do get text messages. But we have 5 phones on our plan so right now it pays to have a contract. The kids burn up those text, lol.

Cathie both my girls bought their "new" phones on eBay. They were still new in box but were discontinued models. Think they have LG vu but might be wrong. One has a keyboard the other doesn't, but phones were less than $100. AT&T is the only thing that works here, so we are stuck. I ordered a cell phone antena booster josh is suppose to install this wk. hope it stops some of my dropped calls & improves my spotty Internet!

Never did use my phone much until I got the job I have now. Teva was the only one in my phone book but now there are close to 50 and it grows daily. LOL

Drivers, bosses, parts houses and the list goes on. Generally it starts ringing at about 5am and continues to around 10 or 11 at night. Sometimes I use 200 minutes in a day's time but I can take that off of my taxes as an expense just as I can my tools.

Well gotta say hello to everyone here and I hope that all is well with everyone. Just came down to feed and check the critters then head back to Enid and turn in for the evening.

Got a good rain both here and in Enid which shut down the trucks for a few days. Translated that means that they all need to go through the shop before starting work again on Mon. or Tues. so Sat and Sun. will both be very late nights. Glad that where we are staying is only about 10 mins. away from the shop so I can work extra long without the hour drive home.

Elbert it is good to see chickens running around in your pens again, gets lonely without them doesn't it?

Sprint, AT&T and T-Mobile all have micro towers that you can install that will help with call signal. They use your high-speed internet and then broadcast a cell signal to your phone. We wouldn't get calls in our house without one.

We love our booster. Only way we can get signal in the house. Has to be rebooted occasionally, but it works fine mostly.

NN sounds like you are getting back to your old self again! Also sounds like you are going to burning a lot of midnight oil!. Don't over do and take care of yourself!
Well its been along time since I checked in and a lot of changes. We have just finished moveing to a new town. Now live in Indian Mound,Tn. Its only 20 minutes to Dover where the wife now works. She was haveing to drive 2 hrs one way to work everyday and it was just to much. We still have our home in Portland,Tn and plan on putting it up for sale as soon as we get it spruced up(did I say I hate painting!lol) Its been a busy couple of weeks. We found a place to rent and don't plan on buying again because we want to go back to Okla. in two to three years when she retires. What we found( pickings are slim here) is a geniune log cabin! Its one bedroom(upstairs) and is modern. Although has been empty a couple of years and has taken a lot of cleaning and spruceing. Its going to be a fun experience. Everyone shoule try a log cabin at least once!
I did have to get rid of all my chickens and critters although I have kept three pairs of pigeons that I love. We also have a new pup,its a beagle/shitzu cross! She is our new love and is spoiled rotten. I still try to read the thread as often as can. A lot of new people on here! Hope you all survived the hot summer and are as ready as I for a beautiful fall. Take care and I hope to be checking in more often when I get things settled down here.
Doodle!!! Sounds like you're an expert mover. Congrats on the log cabin. I've always wanted to live in one. We stayed in one in Colorado, up near Monarch Pass, over a long weekend many, many winters ago. The kids marveled at the composting toilet. They didn't trust that it would work until they'd used it several times. I remember that the cabin was small but comfy. We enjoyed the "togetherness" it demanded. Any pictures of your new place yet?

Just dropping in to say - I have chickens again! In the nine months since our move to Duncan, I have been completely pet-less. But I got four laying hens from a coworker, and so I now have 3 Barred Rocks and 1 Rhode Island Red hen =)
Grace!!! Congrats on your new chickens : ) Good to see you online.

Wow! Sounds like we have the same phone issues. DH installed an antenna booster, which helps if you're close to it. Staying in one place (sitting under the antenna) is the only thing that keeps my phone from failing completely.

Morning, Okies : )

Homecoming week ended. First drafts are in (research paper), so I'm working every waking minute (that isn't spent with my animals) to grade the first attempts offered by my English students. Art students are making my days most enjoyable. We watched a few home videos showing koi ponds at feeding time. Here are a few watercolors (one is a work in progress, but I'm posting it because it's on its way to "amazing" status). We'll be weaving rugs from old T-Shirts next week. Busy, busy, busy. Have a great day, everyone. The rain is slowing, and the sun is coming up, so I think I can tend my flock without wearing rain gear and a headlamp.

This morning I saw that big hawk swoosh down by my window and I said to my husband why do they want my chickens but don't care about the squirrels? He looked out the window and a squirrel was running by the pool and BAM!, the hawk got it. Ok, I was wrong.
