***OKIES in the BYC III ***

A couple of my Cochin girls have been sitting on eggs. I couldn't get them to stop brooding so I gave them each a few eggs to hatch. I had two hatch earlier this week and thought that by now surely the rest were no good and planned to pulll them all tomorrow.
Today, I had a little extra time befor I left for work so I went down to the pens to hang out with the birds. i heard one peep and thought it was from a sparrow in the trees near by but I checked the coop. There was one chick in a corner of the nest box. The hen was in the opposite corner of the box sitting on two remaining eggs and the poor chick was cold. I took it in the house to try to warm it up, gave it some water and held it on a heating pad on low. I had to leave for work so it only got 15 minutes on the heat and I put it in the brooder with my two other Cochin chicks and the 8 Ameraucans I am brooding for Jack.. I wasn't hopeful but it was up and running around with the rest when I got home! Yeah!

Al my young birds that are outside now are over 8 weeks old. Do you think the cold snap will affect them? I think I will get some straw tomorrow and give them all some extra bedding though almost all of them roost,. Many of them have been roosing on roosts outside of their coops since this Summer. I have had chickens 3 years now but I still fuss over them like an old hen. I gave them all vitamins in their water early this week and have been giving them more scratch and sunflower seeds.

How come my last post all runs together though I wrote it in 3 paragraphs. Also, I don't have any "Smilies" available now?

I think BYC is taking away your smileys since you don't visit us enough. Try checking in more often & maybe they will let you have your smilies back??
How is the new job going?? I am sure work is why you have been MIA hopefully the job won't interfere with your chicken love.

LOL I think BYC is being glitchy tonight, I had to try three times before it would let me have the "bar" at the top of the reply box- it wouldn't let me load any pictures on another thread till after 3 tries!!

Exotic birds. welcome to OKIE land. Great looking flock!

What kind of cold front has moved in to Oklahoma? Hope it doesn't get my sweet potatoes.

They are talking chances of frost in some areas. I still have corn that wont be ready for another wk plus tomatoes green beans & melons that are not ready to die!!! Can't imagine covering my corn with a frost protector. Checked a little corn today, the worms have really enjoyed it. Hopefully I can cut the tips off & still fill my freezer.

the only way i can get photos is to copy the html from somewhere like photobucket, then click on the source button in the editor, paste it and click source to go back to the regular editior- a real pain...

i am ready for the cooler weather- fav time of year!

Chilly in Haskell this morning but all is well in the coop so far. I picked up 5 wild free range yesterday from a dude down the road. Sure is a big difference in hatching your own and getting them already raised. My babies all come to the door to greet everyday. those 5 are standing in the corner scared as ****. I am sure they will come around soon.
