Robin any time we have a major weather change the birds that are not as strong & healthy usually let us know. Only other thing you can do is wait & see how she does IMO.

My girls are busy with their school, the goats are munching down the back yard & the birds are protesting the cold. When I told Taron it was time to let them out she even protested the cold.

DH guys are at the range & will be there all weekend. Made them the black bean soup & Mexican corn soup. Did a double batch of both, imagine it will all be gone in a few hours. Think I may start some sit pea soup for us, got some ham hocks waiting in the fridge.
Speaking of ham hocks, last weekend 3 hogs were in the front pasture & my dogs took off after them. DH couldnt get a shot in, I called neighbors let thm know we saw them. Neighbor stopped by yesterday, they got a 280lb one. I hope I don't see the other 2 again or any of their family.

Mitzi, I use visquine on the North and West facing sides of my pens and it makes a huge difference. The sides average about 6 feet high and I have shade cloth on the tops. It is really comfortable inside them. I also don't have any of the coop's openings face the North. I have door on the coops but almost never close them unless I am trying to teach them to go in there at night.
I started to put it up last weekend but it was so hot and stuffy I hated to close them in. I'm afraid if I put it up this weekend it'll get back into the 90's again next week :-/

Robin, I'd be doing the same you are for the Silkie girl, I hope she makes it through ok.
The Sebrights & Spitzhaubens I got recently all had quite a case of roundworms (probably other kinds that couldn't be seen also). Super super common with birds. I've wormed them twice now with Valbazen and they're plumping up and getting nice red color back. So maybe it's something as simple as worms with your girl. Adults don't usually show many signs but it hits younger ones hard, even common worms like roundworms.
Sheesh, I practically get down on my knees and thank God for my Spitz's every night when I lock them up

I love them so much and am so happy to have them. All these guys I've gotten and hatched this year and last mean so much to me. I'm going to make the Brabanters a super special coop and yard! Way super excited about them!

Christina, pea soup sounds soooo good! My husband is the cook in the family, I wish I was more interested in cooking.
Erin, I'm so sorry for your loss. We haven't yet caught the cat that killed 4 of mine in recent months. We lock them all up tight every night. It takes quite awhile to lock up this many birds all in different coops and yards but when I read about losses like yours I remember why I do it. I'm so sorry.

Mitzi how many chicken yards do you have??? We have 4 pens that are large & always have birds of some kind in them & 5 moveable coops that are all empty!!!! I use the portable coops for breading pens & grow out or quaretine.
Poor Taron went back out with her insulated hunting coveralls & gloves on. When she game back in she asked if she could get a face mask for Christmas.
