***OKIES in the BYC III ***

What are you hatching?
I am almost ready to start setting eggs from the Birchen Rosecomb project, I really like the looks of the color on the males now that these are getting close to finished and the pullets are starting to lay. Already have my test matings from this years OE cockrells that I chose to keep and a few pullets that made the cut as well.
Here is one of the F1's working toward Birchen Rosecomb.

handsome bird

These 2 mixes are so cool looking! The 1st one is the Marans/Orloff mix, he's not yet 5 months old and huge. Him and his brother are the 2 we got all the Orpingtons from Bill for (in the 2nd pic). Their A-Frame still isn't shingled but they don't seem to care. Hopefully we'll get that done this weekend.
The 3rd picture is one of the 2 Faverolles/Orloff mixes-both were boys. I sure do like Orloffs. I've got 6 Orloff hens and 8 Orloff pullets, very sweet and calm birds. I'm obviously impressed with Orpingtons also-I've gotten 11 total from Bill

GREAT birds.

Mitzi I like the look of that roo. Think he would have been awesome to have during the feather in the hair craze.
Only had 5 eggs today. Wonder if it is another snake or the dog???
The new electric fence is amazing. DH didn't put hot wire between the 2 goat pens, and now Bambi is jumping between pens. Both lens have identical feeders, hay & water, think she is just trying to prove she is still in charge.

You quilters probably already know about this but I discovered something purly by accident today. I was experimenting for something I've been working on. I started w/ 2 solid squares, sewed 3 long seams and made 3 cuts and ended up w/ this block and it's exact opposite!!!!

Nice block!

Quote: Nice Birchen Rosecomb roo.
I'm hatching eggs from the Banties: Spangled OEGB, the Black Rosecomb, some d'Anver Buff Columbians and the OEGB White pullet with a really sweet OEGB roo. The large fowl: Columbian Wyandottes and the F1s bred back to the CW roo Beau.

The young Cochin pullet eggs have not been fertile so I won't set any more of those until spring when I set up some breeding pens.
I have a great F1 Birchen Wyandotte and some nice F1 Birchen Wyandotte pullets that I want to try.
I'll have to post some pictures of the F1 Cochin/Wyandotte roo Stephanie liked and another like the F1 Cochin/Wyandotte that you liked. He looks alsmost as good as the one that I lost.

Of the six in the incubator, only one has hatcher early...a orange and brown chipmunk OEGB. The LF are still moving and should hatch on time by tomorrow. Otherwise the little bugger will get a feather duster and a mirror until the next group due to hatch on the 8th.

Looks like another gorgeous day today. I am trying to decide how many birds I want to feed this winter - how many need to go to auction and which ones I am willing to break ice for over the winter. I am never sure of the best time to sell birds. Is it too early to sell turkeys and ducks for Thanksgiving? I think the nice weather this weekend would make it ideal for moving pullets from the grow-out yard into my laying flock and identifying all the roosters that need to become soup for someone.
