***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Well due to the oil boom I have relocated to Enid but I don't get on very much anymore. that's the SW corner of NW. LOL

still alive and kickin' and averaging way too many hours weekly to get on the computer. Just came home today to move some appliances North.
Land and rent prices are crazy high and it looks like for the near future there is no end in sight.

Even at 52 I find myself getting homesick for our place here, listening to all of the critters and watching them through the day and hearing the Coyotes howl at night. 15 more payments and this place will be free and clear and I'm sure that I can rustle up enough work to keep food on the table and pay the bills.

Well I'd better get loaded and head that way. Later ya'll !!!!

It`s good to hear from you again Les....I was wondering how things were going for y`all! I`ts a nice feeling to see that mortgage ride off into the sunset my friend, Patti and I have 2 years left on ours and we are looking forward to that day for sure!
Take care and check in when you can!

Good Monday morning to all! It looks like we will have some real nice weather in store for the Thanksgiving Holiday. For all of those who will be on the road, drive safe and have fun!

Bahaha Thing 1 and Thing 2 I love it but not sure they do judging from the looks on their faces.

Am I the only one that doesn't name the birds? Nathanael names his, Jackson and Kurt haven't yet that I know of. I have a few that have names like my big red RR roo he is "Big Red" I know original huh. We also have a BO hen that is Miss Chatterbox because she tells you about everything when you go out to feed or gather eggs. I also have a rag tag pair of BR hens I bought in Newcastle last spring that looked horrible and have crooked toes. But they are the sweetest things we call them the Spinsters. They stick together and kind of keep to themselves.
I name mine for ease of identifying who I am talking about, but have several that do not have names. If they aren't easy to tell from the others or don't have a personality that sets them apart they usually don't get names.

yes, its got five toes on one foot, and four on the other... Thats what confuses me as well? But Im almost sure its a Sultan. And from my expierience so far with it, it is a very vocal bird! It will let you know when it is the slightest bit of cold!

Morning

I'm in for a hot tea break. There's an industrial-strength skunk oder near one of my sprung traps this morning, so I think a stink bomb got pinched when the trap snapped. The rock worked to keep the trap upright, but it may also have kept the door from shutting quickly. Needs tinkering.

I hope everyone can enjoy the beautiful fall weather : )

Oh I had an empty pen until last week when the little CW roo I got at POOPS decided to take me on. I had to kick him 3 times to make him back down. So he is now in the empty breeding pen by the guineas (that will teach him he now has to listen to those darn guineas 24/7). I have been working with him all week on letting me in the pen and I walk straight toward him. If he charges me I chase him until I catch him and then carry him all over to do my chores. He will settle down or else, lol. I figure another few days serperated from his pen and he will be ready to go back. Plus he will be the low man on the pecking order so that will help the other roo in that yard. He had him beat down horribly. He didn't start this until last week up till then the BC Marans and him lived happily together. There are 9 BC pullets, 1 CW pullet, 5 SLW pullets in there so plenty of girls to go around haha.

I hear ya on the house payments! We've got 18 months left on ours and I can't wait. It's not anything fancy but it'll be a house to live in that no one can take away and I love that feeling.
I wonder, Elbert....does that tiny rooster in the picture realize he's got it better than most humans have it??

What a great picture.

Here's a quick picture of my 2 little Diamond Doves. Only 1/3 the size of the Ringneck Dove we had for 7 yrs. I'm excited about the Zebra Finch pair I'm getting from P&B tomorrow! I'm planning little bird habitats for the Finches and Doves in their separate cages. Wouldn't it be adorable to have little Bonsai trees in a nice tall cage for the finches?

That's my kind of decorating. To heck with decorating the house-fish aquariums and bird cages & coops are my thing!

Morning Okie land!

POCO while you are around, what did you find to be the best meat/egg layer? I know you had tried several breeds.

Hope everyone has a wonderful holiday week!!!! Happy Thanks Giving!

Beautiful Doves! We are fortunate enough to have several pairs of Ringnecks that nest in our Cedar trees, so I get to hear their cooing a lot around here....A few years ago we had a pair of Inca Doves that nested here for two years in a row but I have not seen them since, they were really pretty and small too! Last year I seen a white Dove out here, I figured it must have escaped from it`s cage and that`s too bad, white birds don`t do well in the wild.
