I don't know just an idea.

More free chicken food!

Yep. I agree with you. But I'm more worried about away from my home. I love to go camping and hiking and it's going to be buggy!

Yep, I found a squash bug in my greenhouse today! It's January and I don't have any squash planted except in my seed flats that are just coming up. Jeepers. My chickens were happy to dispose of it for me, however, if I let them in the greenhouse they will also help me dispose of all my lettuce, spinach, kale, and broccoli rabe that's growing too. Hmm???

Yea.... I think the chickens would love the idea of getting in there.

You can tell who is on line and on byc by the green dot under the name area on the left side of a post, but other then that I don't know.

Welcome County Hen! There isn't an open chat room like on Facebook, but there are evenings when several of us are on line at the same time. Where in Oklahoma are you located. That may help generate some more local response to you. What types of chickens do you have or want?

This is me dancing in the rain....So glad we are getting some much needed rain...we have 1.5 inches in the rain gauge. Hubby is out checking the ponds to see how they look. We will need lots of runoff to fill them but this is a good start.

Okla doodle...I toe punched the chicks this morning and took a picture of one of their feet for you.
Toe punch on the right side of the left foot... just clipped out the web between with minimal bleeding...looks a little fuzzy since I enlarged it.

This is the new toe punch I bought from Twin City Poultry Supplies. It has a lever action like a finger nail clipper. Much easier to use than the old pincher type.

I will follow up with a color coded leg coil band for the year of birth and a colored band for the pen (Sire and hen). Have to wait til they are a little bigger and I have culled some of the hatch.

thanks nanakat I am near Idabel about 30min. out live on the river. I have just 4 hens & a rooster right now started last year with 9 hens & a rooster but I lost some due to hawks & then some more due to my neighbor's dog I have learned lots this year but still need to know more to keep my chickens safe. I plan to get some buff orpington chicks in Feb. & start again.
