***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Hey Mr.Stimp! Hope you are doing well! It's been way to long.
NaNa this is getting better than watching General Hospital! (the rat part) !lol sorry about he roo,it's always the ones we have plans for.
Went to the Amish sale today, like to froze to death! Didn't stat till it finished, things were too high and I was too cold! There are going to be so many disappointed people in a few days I'm afraid. There were so many birds and animals brought to the sale on flat bed trailers and in the back of pickups with no protection at all! They will all be sick and the majority will be dead in a few days. Even baby bottle goats and sheep! Which sold for from $60-$100 each! I'm not one to over pamper my birds,as I think it makes them weak, but at some point you do have to take proper care of them! Really makes me mad and sad to see people do this. Not to mention the monetary loss for the buyers. One guy had a dozen grown red turkeys cooped up on a flat bed! As easy a turkeys are to get colds and sinus problems hose are proably all doomed!
Okay,I'll get off my soap box!lol
Stimp how is your health doing? Hope the beautiful wife is doing good too!

Sorry if anyone finds this gross. Thoughts on what it is??? Imagine we will need to cull. My first guess was maybe there was 2 yolks?

How old is this chick? If it was a second yolk I would think it would dry up and go away, but it looks full of fluid. The location looks like a herniated rectum type thing. Is it able to poop? Have you tried a needle aspiration to see what is in the sac?

I gave my work partner a couple of dozen eggs when my chickens first started laying (stopped b/c while he was thrilled to get them his family wouldn't eat "farm eggs") anyway his little boy took one of the eggs, we never figured out how it was different to him, but he decided it was a dragon egg, he carried it a babyed it for several days, determined he would get a dragon to hatch from it.  lol

That's cute Kassandra! I remember thinking I could hatch an avocado and get an alligator. Of course if the kid hatched out a NN or a silkie he might think it was a dinosaur.

I haven't tried to use a needle on the chick or pull it away. I was scared it could be attached or even have organs formed on the outside. I haven't seen him poo yet, but he just came out of the hatcher tonight.

betsy here are the pics of some of the chicks that i have razed out of that silver sillkie pullet from the first green country swap

all of these great pullets have hatched out of chicks from that hen i also have several more from her she if great thanks for sharing her with us

That young I would probably try and needle aspirate, and then just watch to see if he "absorbs" it or has any issues or failure to thrive. I would be prepared to cull though. (I am slow to cull the babies just HATE it)

I did further inspection of the chick, the mass is solid & hard. Taron said it is like a dried prune. Seriously it is rock solid. I have had birds without the yolk absorbed all the way before, this is nothing like it. Poor chick I will give him until tomorrow.
