***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Okay, so did the flour and it's not bleeding anymore. We did put it in the brooder so it could eat an drink, also to see what the others would do. Everyone came around it to see it and even looked at its bum, though no one picked at it as of yet. We are keeping an eye on it to make sure nothing happens. I'd like to thank everyone for their help. This has so far been the major upset since we've gotten the babies an I don't want anything to happen to them.

Erin if you are purchasing a pregnant doe you would need to get 2 since goats get crazy lonely. I would ask for a confirmed pregnancy test, plus any other things you are personally worried about (CL, CAE, Johnes). More than likely a goat that someone has done all the testing on wont be cheap. Many time you can find does for sale with kids reasonable & then you can see how well they milk yourself. I always see people who are moving or goat population exploded & they need to reduce their numbers.
Thanks for the advice. I see someone else was asking about goats today too. Must be that time of year. We have to get either pygmies or nigerian dwarf because we can't have full size ones where we live right now. We really wanted nigerian because I read they were better for milk production but babies are $300 and up. That's a lot of goat milk! We've found some pygmies for $75 though so ...

Well, one of our two month old turkeys has a broken leg ... we put them out in a pen in the main yard yesterday so they can get used to be around the other birds and she was fine when we put her out there but by afternoon she was limping. We brought her in and put her in a warm box with molasses water and feed and today her ankle is swollen and the leg looks deformed just above it. We're going to soak it in Epsom salts and then try to splint it with some heavy plastic that I use for plant markers and I got some wrap that they use for bandaging horses to wrap it with. We had a chicken break it's leg one time and we just kept it inside and warm for about a week and it bounced right back ... not sure about the turkey though. We don't want to have to put it down though.

It's gotten much quieter since Jarvis went back to work. Seems like many dropped off after he got busy with work.

I never knew ducklings bonded so quickly. I added a duck from this wks hatch into the brooder with last wks. He was in there maybe an hour. Took the new hatchling out & the older ducks screamed for 15 min until I gave them their new friend back. They look like giants compared to the new one.

That is funny and adorable. Ducks are pretty smart.
