***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Hey all just me checking in, trying to read back posts and keep up. Move is coming along we have the kitchen ready for the cabinet people but they cancelled on us today. We may end up installing the kitchen cabinets ourselves before it is over. Sold alot of the birds, been saving my favorites for last (BOs,BAs, and Cuckoo Marans) but they will be listed this week for sale. I am keeping 8 laying hens and the kids will keep some of their birds but everyone else will be sold by the end of next week. Jackson has some of his Buff Brahma Bantams if anyone is looking for good starter birds for kids. They are so laid back and gentle, Jackson carries them around like kittens and they put up with it.

I am still trying to decide do I take a dog kennel to town for my birds or do I take one of my hoop houses? The dog kennel is 10x10 and the Hoop house is 10x10 so same amount of room.

Kass, I love the pic of Oreo. Our birds apparently like blackberries I bought some last week and the boys took a container outside to eat and "shared" them with the free range roosters because they were begging! LOL

Well off to finish my work week, I am now working part time in our Shawnee office and part time in our OKC office. I took over our NOKC clinic and loving the new job. I will eventually be here full time in OKC, I will miss my job in Shawnee I love the clinic there and the people but I bet I learn to love the people here just as much.

Cathie I am certain you husband & boys can install the cabinets in just a few hours. Save your money & make the most of your live in labor. I hope your move goes well & you are able to find good homes for the rest of your birds.

I have never clipped wings. Had a friend in town who clipped her birds & the birds didn't care they still flew over her 6 ft fence.

Thanks I think we can too but dh is being a nervous nelly about it for some reason. This from the man who took out two weight bearing walls this week and put in header beams yet he is afraid of kitchen cabinets???? LOL

Glad someone asked about wing clipping, we have been considering it for our birds since we will be in town. But then I just get to thinking they have never gone over the fence we have now that is 4' and the house in town has a 5' fence so I probably don't need to worry about it (famous last words I know)

So my lil banty cochin had a cut on her leg she was not bleeding but it was opened so we thought to use blukote. We let it dry and then put her back in w everyone else, and immediately everyone else went ballistic and started pecking her. We removed her right away and washed off as much of the bluekote as we could thinking that it was that but of course cant get everything off, then just dusted her feet with flour to lighten her feet to see if that would help. Of course it didn't an I'm out of ideas,

can anyone help? Thank you.

they will continue to pick on anything that is weak or injured .. you will have to brood any birds that are weak and injured seperate

Well we took them all outside to see if they were suffering from boredom. They loved it!

They stopped picking on the one that had the discolored feet, yay! The one that was injured found a worm, an then lost it,lol. They all had a great time outside, it was their first time. We gave them small grit just in case. I can't remember if they are supposed to get that if they start eating outside or not. They are only 3wks old so we didn't have them out long. Is there anything I need to do now that I've brought them back inside? or just go about the biz same old same old. Thanks donnie btw on your response, I will keep that in mind.
