***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I am SOOOO flippin tired of this!!!! I studied the weather for weeks, even checked the almanac before I asked my sub to work spring break, so I could be off work and spend time with my babies (the fowl of course, kids are around here somewhere lol) and here we are the 3rd day of cold wet nastiness!!! Not to mention that stupid ground hog lied!!!

Yes, postalpoultry, I'm not liking this on again off again cold weather and am soooo looking forward to a real Spring. My juveniles chicks are getting rowdy and eager for more room.....outside!

Good morning friends and neighbors!

It`s a craptacular start to Spring! Besides the up and coming cold rainy week ahead, My Rooster went and got himself killed by dogs and the girls quit laying and quit the nest!

On a lighter note....here is a picture of a recent Bigfoot siting near Tahlequah, OK! :)

Hey! I've seen that! ;)
Hello all.
WOW took awhile to catch up on this thread!! 4200+ post takes some time lol
Just wanted to intro myself. Im Kinda an older model. Getting back into Poultry. I live about 30 min west of Tulsa.
Plan on Raisng Silver Laced Wyandottes. May dabble in Golden Laced too. Mostly just like the overall looks of the breed
and they are multipurpose (Fried Chicken AND omlets lol) I have some Hatchery Stock for layers only. Not planning on breeding these at all.
Will slowly replace them with my own stuff later on. I purchased some hatching eggs from Scott Carter (Carters Legacy Farms) out of Alabama . dunno how many of them
I will end up with they shipped and spent the night in Tulsa @21 degrees. 6 are developing (not counting till they hatch lol). Working on getting other breeder stock for breeding.
Ordered all pullets but cpl of them are cockrels im pretty sure. They will probably end covered in lowerys season salt in a few months!!
The Pullets are going on 5 weeks and growing nicely
Looking forward to interaction with the local chicken peeps
Wow! You're commited! it must have taken you some time to catch up. Welcome!
Hello,
A nice lady put up a reply on a thread I was reading and said this was a Okie Chicken thread!
I am out here south of Mounds, haven't been on BYC long but raisin' critters including chickens my whole life (which is longer than I will ever admit!) Just wanted to say HI
Welcome!
My first chicks, three, of the year hatched on St. Patrick's day so their names are O'Brien, O'Connor and O'Malley.
Mama with two of the three -
Such cute chicks and names!

We are sick of this weather also. Soo wanting warm SPRING weather. Trying to keep sanity with 5 wk old chicks and 2wk old chicks, and the weather isn't helping.

Anywho, anyone going to Blanchard auction tomorrow? Called today and they said they are having it. Went 2wks ago and ticked me off how slow the check out is. So hopefully this time around it's not the same ordeal. Also hoping that my addiction to chickens gets the best of me an I bring more home! DH will probably beat me to it!

It's officially spring...I have horse hair ALL over me, the ground and I'm sure I swallowed at least 2 lbs. He has a NICE thick coat for the winter up in PA....

This is AFTER the brushing. There is still SO much hair and he is REALLY out of shape...lots of work come some warmer weather!

Hey guys, I got a question. So I have 5wk olds and I have 2wk olds. When and how do I integrate them?

I would put them together at night and then just keep an eye on them the next day. Mine do fine as long as there is a big enough group of younger ones that no one chick gets picked on. If I have one that's being especially rowdy I'll pull it out for a few hours, then when I put it back in things are fine.

Hate to tell you but check out is kinda slow there, they do not get in no hurry! Plus keep all your receipts for at least a year. Use mine for tax write offs.

OKracefan is telling the truth, the checkout you experienced was normal. I have found it is best to allow your child to stand in line with a bag of popcorn then when the popcorn is out, maybe get them nachos. Then let one of your other kids take a turn. Within an hour you will make it through the checkout. Anything shorter than an hour consider it a good night!

We do have tentative plans to attend, as long as Bambi doesn't kid & Taron doesn't sell the rest of her chicks. She has already had a few customers today.
