***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Khaws
I am getting two pigs this week I am so excited to get me some bacon and sausage seed. Lol. That so made me laugh....bacon seed.

So I don't have any chickens yet and I am thinking about getting a small breeder. I am going to get 8 breeds of chicken 30 birds each breed. Also 2 breeds of duck 30 birds each. I was wondering if this is even a good idea, and how much feed will one chicken eat per year? Also how much feed will a duck eat per year, and the same with batam chickens?

If you can help me I would be greatful.

Thank you

I have had some nn before in the past. But the 4 little ones I have now have hardly any feathers, lol
I know what you should name him "The Vulture".

I love EE b/c of the colored eggs and the variety of feather color and patterning, and NN they are hardy, lay good big eggs and do well in our obsene summer heat.

Oh, but EE aren't "breeds" no standard of perfection
I agree with Kass, I don't have NNs but know they are hardy. EEs and Ameraucanas do well in our climate and lay consistently too.
I love my Cochins but for practical birds they are not the choice, as pets, (and for kids0, they are tops.
Rhode Island Reds, in my modest experience, are friendly and good layers.

Good evening all...DH and I got the water and electical all in and ditches backfilled. It was hard sweaty work but it will be oh so nice in winter to not have to drag the big water hoses out! Not to mention how nice summer watering chores will be. Whew glad that's over with!

On Sunday my oldest and most revered, wonderful flock rooster, Rooty Roo didnt act right. Since we were up at the barn anyway I monitored him throughout the day and he just laid around a lot but was watching his hens and eating and drinking fine. That evening I picked him up and told him what a wonderful rooster he was and that we loved him and his beautiful babies. I said goodnight to him and the girls and closed the coop. I am so glad I got to hold him that night because during the night he died. That rooster was the very best rooster I have ever had the pleasure of owning or being around. Gentle amd sweet to people, considerate towards his hens...he was a great dancer for his ladies and always gave them any food he found. I bought him as part of a buff cochin trio years and years ago. One of the best purchases I have ever made. He was fully mature when I bought him so we arent sure exactly how old he was but he was no less than 7 years old which in chicken years is probably over 100 years old. And wouldnt you know it I didnt collect eggs to hatch this year...and now I am kicking myself for it. I have collected eggs from his girls the last few days hoping they will be viable.

Sorry for the long post but my feelings were hurt so bad because he died that I couldnt post yesterday...I was too sad about it.
I understand.

I hope you find comfort in knowing he had the best life a roo could have.

? on meat birds how much is to much feed. I have 47 Cornish x I was told to have feed available 24/7 for 4 weeks then 12/12 for 4 weeks. Then to determine how much to feed see what they can clean up in 15 min. So they can eat 10# in the 15 min. so from start to finish I would have $20 per chicken with organic feed ff.
how long would it take to grow out like the regular way with the flock?

this is random but can someone maybe point me to a more healthy diet for my dog? she is a Great Pyrenees mix, 6 months old.. but i was looking into maybe fermenting or some other kind of diet that is more budget friendly, yet way better than bagged commercial dog chow. she is currently on the blue buffalo for large breed puppies. i search the web but did not come up with much, just throwing it out there. thank you.

Do y'all know where I can find some EE's and Buff Orpingtons? I've been searching on Craigslist but haven't found a whole lot
