***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Choctaw made it thru the worst weather tonight with just se wond and a lot of rain.

Had to put down my big, LF Buff Cochin rooster today. He was a gentile (sp?) giant.
On a good note; my Showgirl just started laying small, lt. Brown eggs.

Mary Jo....so sorry to hear about your rooster. Peaches will miss him terribly. I enjoyed the stories about him. Glad to see you are okay with the weather.

We are just getting some heavy rain. right now. Had to medicate both dogs to help them with the storms.

Okie T is in the town of Little...hope she is okay.

Hope others will check in soon.

A true gardening / cat story from today. I was replanting peanuts today, in spots where they had not sprouted from the first planting. I had dug away a small hole for the peanut and realized I did not have a shelled seed to plant so I reached for my little bag to shell a peanut to plant. My cat Pebbles had been "helping" me for some time and had been watching, as soon as I reached for the peanut bag, he came over to my small hole squatted and did his business and walked off.

Kassaundra, where do you buy peanuts? do you harvest any?

Just to let everyone know. We are all safe. We left oklahoma for Disney World just hours before the Moore tornado. All family and friends are safe in Moore. We made it back Wednesday at noon. Had a blast. WhiskeyTango how have your Wheaten chicks turned out? Looks like I have two roos and three pullets.

1 roo and 2 pullets I think. I have to say that the mixed marans I got seem to be a little healthier than the full blood Wheatons. How was the trip? Hope you guys had fun. Of course you could of stayed home and had quite an adventure too. I hope this is the last of bad storms. I'm tired of driving all over the place. It seems like everyone of them has headed for my house so far and then missed us.

thanks i actully have a couple more i could not get a good photo of because they wouldn't hold still well enough lol. Yours is very pretty i like slashes but i don't have any.
I have one more polish hen that is grey with a white top. Their names are Ethel and Bethel. I hatched two of their babies in the brooder. My male is black with a white top.

Ok that weather was scary. We went to storm cellar. Then we got hit by hail. My kids were so scared. They are all sleeping in our room tonight.

We are without power. 3 people and 4 dogs had to squeeze into a closet (which isn't really that small, ) but it was full of empty shoe boxes and high heels. Why some things are never gotten rid of, I'll never know, but I fell in the closet and hit my head. So that's fun... lol Especially considering that they would start talking about these new tornadoes that were forming in Union City headed toward Mustang, then one or two times it seemed like they stopped talking about those. We would come out for fresh air, then they would tell us to take shelter again.

This is my first year, I bought raw peanuts at a little mom and pop feed store in Okmulgee, but they have them at all the TSC and Atwoods types too. They weren't special "seed" type, just raw. The leaves of the peanut are supose to be awesome food especially for rabbits, and for chickens too, really high in protien, so even though I wasn't ready for the meat buns this spring like I hoped I went ahead and planted the peanuts like I planned to, to see if it is a viable option when I do get the rabbits. My goal is to feed out the leaves, so keep the plant growing while I "trim" them regularly. If I get seed for next year even better.

STUPID, STUPID, STUPID, I seriously hope my insurance covers stupid!!!!!!! My car is sitting headlight deep in the lake on Henryetta Main St. My only defense besides the obvious stupid, is it was dark, I thought it was the same road puddles I had already been through, you know the normal ones. Police I guess had put out road cones, but the water had risen and flooded and knocked them over so I didn't see them until I was wading thigh high in water on the way out. I fished them out and moved them futher out of the water and put them back in the roadway.
