Chickenfan sorry to hear about your brother! How scary! How old is he?

Kass I narrowed my car search down to 2 cars that we were interested in & searched & searched & searched! Ended up buying this car from an individual on Craigslist. Single owner & was about $5000 under blue book. We paid $1000 out of pocket after taxes so overall very happy! We will save $200 a month in gas so balances out for sure. Hope you get a good insurance payout to help with your search. Maybe you can even find something that will be completely covered by your claim. That would be AWESOME!

Help! I have a jersey giant hen who is limping. My husband and I caught her and couldn't see any visible problems and she didn't seem to be in pain. Should we isolate her? Any problems I could check for?

I had a hen limping so badly I thought I would lose her. I picked her up and all the bones in her leg seemed fine, so I put her in a crate in the garage overnight. The next morning she was perfectly fine. I'm guessing she sprained something jumping down off the top roost (which is about 4 ft up). So I would isolate her overnight or for a few days and see how it goes since there are no visible injuries.

check the bottom of her feet for any sores - and do put her in isolation just to be able to observe her- feel her joints for anything irregular, rubbing, popping etc

spent the day working on the duck pen, nasty uchy job, but has to be done. One of the faverolle chicks is a cross beak, poor little thing, trimmed a little on the bottom beak hoping it will help her eat, she can handle bread, which got me to thinking, maybe make a bread with crumble in it to help her eat?

have 2 broody silkies again- this has been the year of broodies!

Chickenfan sorry to hear about your lil brother. Sending prayers. Hope he is ok.

Our first ever quail egg is hatching. We only have two females and they started laying exactly 18 days ago and we thought why not. So we put it in the incubator sure enough they are fertile. Now my son thinks every egg is a baby and is very fond of the quail eggs and will not let us eat ANY of them! I have another quail egg that is two days behind this one. But don't worry the quail baby will not be lonely I just hatched chicks three days ago. And it will have a new friend in a few days!

We kept our limping hen separated last nite. We gave here a cinderblock to roost on. This morning she is still limping, but may be a little better. No visible signs of injury or disease. Will let y'all know, I really value all the advice and suggestions I get on here.

i was thinking, how high are y our roosts? i keep mine no higher than knee high, that way the heavy breeds won't get hurt hopping down

lost my cochin from mj this afternoon- she had been broody and quit yesterday, today she was weak, and wouldn't eat- ornery little lady, but beautiful!

another question- does safeguard take care of roundworms?

Yes, Safeguard for goats will take care of roundworms, hookworms, tapeworms and I've heard eyeworms.

As a random question, is there anyone on here that is needing to sell/rehome an old Leghorn hen? I have a pen that needs to have some occupants in it and would like to have a white layer to go with my Langshans. I'd be happy to trade if you'd like or would be happy to purchase an older hen. I'm in Claremore.

So sorry for your loss. She was a beauty.
