I know antibiotics don't work on viruses. . . . . . . .
So I wonder what all works on viruses? Anything we can get at the feed stores or over the counter for poultry?

Ksane...I would not use potting soil with perlite or vermiculite. chicks might eat those and they mig cause digestive problems.

For everybody hitting the swaps this weekend... who is going to Tahlequah and who is going to Pryor? Shelbydog and I are trying to figure out the best day to go to either one. We were thinking Saturday in Tahlequah, but will everybody be in Pryor that day?
That hadn't even occurred to me, good point. I'm tempted to just dig a hole and use the fresh dirt and dump the used dirt from the brooder back in the hole. when that hole is full I can start another. It'd be completely free and a lot less messy than these dang shavings. That would at least work good for the 1st few wks.
I was a Guinea Hater after that screaming batch of noisy girls I finally got given away last year. If I didn't know better I would think I was in love with these tiny Lavender Guineas I got last night at the auction. One thing I've greatly missed about Guineas is their watchdog abilities. In the middle of the night if anything moved outside we knew it.
We were there too. Picked up a pair of Barred Rock Ameracauna crosses. Beautiful barred birds with muffs. Also 2 Black Langshan pullets and a young rabbit to Possibly start a breeding progam. The auction was over by 9:30 which was great for us because we brought the kiddos. Do you have a cast on your leg? If so we were right next to you.Newcastle had lots of birds. I got to meet Bardies (Kim) and her husband, Both are super nice. I took $55 with me and came home with $19, so I thought I did really good. I got 6 tiny Lavender Guinea babies, 4 newly hatched chicks and the most beautiful pair of Bantam Partridge Cochins for only $10. They're tiny and awesome & in really good shape, someone took excellent care of them.
These Guinea babies are soooo quiet compared to the 6 i hatched 18 months ago. I had swore no more Guineas but sheesh-Lavenders are really pretty. I'm going to raise them in a covered pen over the winter and see if i can get mine as tame as Robin's are.
