***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I am in south Broken Arrow, I have 2 incubators running now with space for more (I told myself I would stop 2 or 3 batches of eggs ago!) Marans were the first I hatched, I followed simple rules I found here on BYC and had a 50% hatch rate, which was one of my best for shipped eggs. I wouldn't mind incubating them for you, I will warn that shipped eggs can be disappointing though!
When I was starting my Self-Blue Cochin project I got only 1 from a dozen shipped eggs. It was a pullet and all I needed to get started.
I am already making plans for Spring. If I get going with good hatches from the Sportsman I am getting from neighbor Jack I may get some eggs by mail.
My little Sussex pullet has me already wrapped around her little toe. I may trade out my Ameraucanas for Sussex. I love friendly birds and my Ameraucanas are flighty compared to my Cochins and Marans.

The Wheaten Marans eggs have started to darken in color.
Aren't they pretty! Usually, with each egg laying cycle, the gradually get lighter and lighter. Your girls must be maturing. I can't wait to see how dark my Splash pullets's eggs are. Are you girls really friendly? Jack's girls follow him around and jump right on his scooter.

Hey does anyone know someone that builds coops on site?  I would like to have one built a slanted roof 8' x 10' coop.  With my wife's and my health issues it would be easier to find someone to come in and build it.  We need someone good but also reasonable in price.  We will have all the wood stuff.  Also the blue prints.  Thanks

Frank

Todd might be able to do it. His Facebook page is Four Seasons Handman. I think his BYC name is jonouthouse.

I know I' breaking a dozen chicken by-laws here but they make it too easy to do.

2 Gold Laced Brahmas and a Dark Brahma hatched today, I'm in love. My 4 Dark Brahma girls will be 2 yrs old already in Feb. I love those girls so much. I've wanted a male Dark Brahma every since I saw one in person for the 1st time a year ago. That was the tallest, heftiest bird I'd ever seen. He was like a tiny bull with feathers lumbering through the guy's garage, man he was cool. Anyway, I'm hoping this Dark Brahma chick that hatched is a male, actually hoping for a male for once :) He's a people-chick already, all he wants is for me to hold him. The Gold Laced are going to be pretty, too. If I had to pick just one breed to keep it would quite likely be Brahmas. When they're chicks they just hang in your hand looking around, so calm. Wonderful breed.
The Gold Laces are on either side and the Dark in the middle. The 2nd picture is the Dark, he kept running to me when I'd whistle to get their attention lol
i have 2 light brahma girls, they are awesome birds- when they get let out in the morning, they give a jurasic park yell- then they are set for the day...

Went to go make sure the chickens were in the coop and the door had shut, and I brought them a dubia treat, anyway I find Aurdra bloody and almost scalped, and Shakespear w/ a little blood and red peck marks all over his head and neck and the hooda's cowering in a corner w/ heads buried. I stand back for a minute and watch the interactions and clearly identify the problem, Jackie O, the only chicken to have survived the massacre. (the others weren't housed in the same area). Gary is going to bring home some blue food coloring when he comes home, I will dye Shakespear's skin blue for now and left him in the pen for now. I took Aurdra out and cleaned her, she is alone in a kennel for tonight, she will get the blue tx too. Guess I'll take Jackie out tonight and put her in a kennel for a little while and hope that changes her attitude. I have always had an internally friendly flock and even w/ the few I have left (or maybe especially) I just am not going to tolerate this behavior. Anyway I will isolate and reintroduce and see if that works.
Kass, is it possibly a reaction to the attack? Stress and all?

What by-laws are you breaking? Because you're in town and you have too many, you mean?

The chicken per square foot rule. I got 14 girls roosted in that A-frame chicken tractor. My big coop is still a work in progress. I live in the country so no animal limit here.

@Shelbydog, the Chicken Housing Association's official spokeschicken may be knocking on your door soon with a list of demands lodged firmly under her wing.

Kass if they hadn't been housed together I'll bet it's an I'm the boss" thing. Not sure what to do about it other than what you're doing. She's such a pretty girl, it sure wouldn't be hard to re-home her. Poor Hoodas :-( Thanks! I'll bet you anything I'd have gotten more if I hadn't hesitated and not set them for a week :-/ I get so mad at myself for being overly cautious. I always regret it. This one Gold Lace sleeps like this on his back haha! Dang, he's funny  And when you wake him up he shakes his head and lays there on his back staring at you til he finally flops over and gets up lol They're under one of those Brinsea brooders, I guess he's warming his tummy.
You need to post the tummy warmer photo to the what is this chicken thread. So funny.
