True5 doa search for vent gleet. Its a yeast infection. A smelly rear is often gleet. There are lots of pictures online. Treat by feeding plain yogurt for several days. I also trim the nasty stuff caught in their feathers.

I think it depends on the breed. Some roos are more potent then others and age plays a part as well.So I was wondering. What should be the hen to rooster ratio? If I do get more then one rooster should they be kept separate. Should I have two flocks with a rooster in each or will they be okay together as long as they have enough ladies to take care of. Would love to get every bodies opinions.
Congrats on the additions. I know how the number game goes. We were going to start with 10 (The house we bought already had a ready coop and run) and slowly work up from there. That was last year, my count is 27 right now with an order of 13 due in Feb. I am also getting an incubator soon SOOOOoooI can imagine how that will go.![]()
I think she is egg bound... If it is a yeast infection you are going to have to treat it with monistat internally.. I would go a head and treat her with antibiotics in case of secondary infections..LOL! Chickens are like potato chips!!! Only my better half doesn't understand that just yet. I just blame it on my daughter... "But honey, she REALLY LOVES this chicken! She would be SO sad if she didn't have it!" That usually works.
Anyone ever experience an egg bound hen? I just posted a thread on it but one of my hens is sick. She isn't active, wont scratch when out, wont eat, wont lay eggs, empty crop, SMELLYvent, kind of fluffed up. I have her in a dog crate in the garage and I can smell her when I walk in the door. I rubbed her crop thinking sour or impacted and there really isn't anything in it. A little squishy but not a lot. After rubbing it I could swear she farted or something because it smelled like rotten gut. Maybe it was a burp... whatever it was it just was FOUL.
She has been acting sluggish and not social for about 4 days now and I noticed she hadn't raised her voice at me for a few days like she normally does. I don't know if she has an egg stuck, worms (I use DE but cant get her to eat so I can't get it down her), or something worse. Crossing my fingers I get this solved without her dying on me.![]()

My flock has usually had more then one intact roo (I shoot for just 2 though) and so far no real aggression problems.
