I like cows milk but thought goat would taste different(showing my city girl roots). I have a lady that sells cow's out by me, need to go see her & get some again.
I think more people would drink goat's milk if they tried it. I'd bet that if one put goat's milk in a cow's milk carton and served it to a group of people, nobody would notice the difference (unless the goat had just eaten a pasture full of wild onions!).

You can sell raw goats milk. I have purchased raw milk from 2 separate places. First place was kinda laid back they had a fridge on the porch. Left your money in the fridge & took your milk. If you wanted more than 2 gallons they ask you call the night before. Second place is a diverse farm. They sell a bit of everything, variety of meats & eggs in addition to milk. They require you buy a herd share $50 gets you a portion of the animal in addition to the cost of milk each week. They do a contract & everything. Once you stop getting milk they refund your $50 deposit.
Not getting raw milk currently. Once we are settled in from our move I will pro ally seek out a local source.
This site stays up to date pretty well with local raw milk providers
I am not devoted enough to milk 2 times a day. With chickens I can still go away for the night. If I am gone 24-36 hours the chickens don't care too much. With a milking animal it isnt an option.

We raised goats when I was a teen at home (w/ Gma). They are awesome, animals very smart, and the females are gentle, inquisitive, and friendly. The males stink to high heaven and are mean, never met a male that could be trusted! (goat that is) We always kept the male fenced seperate for safety and so we could choose who was bred and when.
The milk tastes basically the same as cow milk, maybe a tad bit sweeter. Oak leaves will also change the milk taste, making it bitter and undrinkable (won't hurt you just
)
I would so have them again if I could.
Oh and as for eating the goats
I can't even stand the smell of the meat cooking!!!!!!! To me it tastes and smells like a billy smells.
Hi everyone. Still not caught up.
Just wanted to say hi.
I had a major coon attack last night. Lost about 15 or so six week old chicks. The coon just pulled them up through the wire and ate their heads off.
I have little Davy Crockett on the case. I will have to be careful where I step down there or I will be the one getting caught.
I hope everyone has a great day.
still alive here, two of my brothers are fixing to be here next weekend and we cant wait.. but until then just trying to keep the farmbabies fat and happy and cooled off...

Sorry about the chicks. We had a scare this morning, there were feathers everywhere, but the girls were still locked up and we do a head count every night. When we got to looking, something (we think a skunk based on the smell this morning) dug up the girl that died earlier this week from heat? (at least we think couldn't think of any other reason she would just die)
