***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Such very sad news, Coral ,I'm sorry so many people had to lose such a wonderful lady :-( To go back to those familiar rooms and halls with her gone would be so hard. Her kids must be devastated.

Kyz, you're a sap like me. And hatching chicks from your VERY OWN birds *is different. They're so special bec use they came from birds you raised yourself. The ones I've hatched from my own birds have been way way healthier and stronger, too. I don't know why.

As far as the mean rooster, no judgement here. My1st concern is the well being of my favorites. Fair or not, those are the rules. And there's far too many gentle roosters out there to justify keeping an aggressive one.
Amen. And what I did was, in a way, to save my own, sweet, gentle Brewster from getting seriously injured.

My very first chickie hatched out of an egg laid by my own chickens! Meet Caramel Junior! Caramel the gold sexlink egglaying machine is her mother, and Floyd the somethingsomething EE roo is her father. Wow, it's pretty cool to hatch eggs, but it's even more amazing when they're from your own flock.

They are already hatching?! Geez time flies.

Coral, great big hugs and condolences. I can tell you from first hand experience that the other side is no pain, no fear, no worry. All of that settles on the shoulders of those left behind. We don't hurt for those who are gone, but for ourselves and for our friends and loved ones left to grieve. The tears we cry are a tribute to a soul so great no words can express our loss. My prayers are with you.

Got to leave it to a duck to lay an egg in a fireplace.....
well, it looks like a perfect place...

Coral, I'm so sorry for your loss of a good friend...your description of your friendship was priceless.

Kyzmette...you are truly addicted! My incubators have been running nonstop since just before Christmas.

Shelbydog...loving the ducks choice for laying her egg. Now you just need to add some hay and let her brood there to. Another Chimney for the deck won't cost too much!

Robyn....you have done well with Sonny's feet. He looks great too.

chickenfan4life...killing a mean rooster is never going to be criticized.

Kassaundra...so glad you are feeling better.

I-love-my-honey...I use AVC for both chicks and adults at the same ratio. Oxine kills bacteria, mold and algae in the waterers. Sometimes I keep two waterers available...one of each in the pens. I don't use DE, so can't speak to using it indoors. Some use it for worming by adding it to the feed on a regular basis.

It was so pretty out doors Saturday. When I dumped the ice from the water tubs, I put the broken chunks in the wheelbarrow and set them around some of my bushes and trees to melt. I was down to my tee shirt for a while soaking up the sun just like the birds. I had to search for eggs in th flower beds because some of the girls that freerange are either not laying or are not returning to the nest boxes for laying. Found a cache of eggs in the front yard.

Thanks for the kind words, everybody. Mary's son is in one of my classes, so I will see her through him when he returns to school.

I'm making a pot of rice this morning to give to the birds. We had some leftovers (cooked vegetables), so I've diced those and will mix them into the rice before I feed everybody.

Shelbydog - Your duck hen is not happy with me. I took her big pool out because it was frozen solid and replaced it with a smaller rubber tub. She can touch the bottom, and apparently that's not good enough. I'll put the big tub back in her pen today. I expect she'll do the happy dance when she's got enough room to do a summersault in the water.

Kyzmette - Thank you.
